The collaboration between the TV anime Sousou no Frieren and Universal Studios Japan opened on May 30, 2026, as the finale of Universal Cool Japan 2026. The day before, a press preview and opening ceremony were held, featuring voice actors Atsumi Tanezaki (Frieren) and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Himmel).
Sousou no Frieren Story Walk ~Tsuisou no Tabi~ Opening Ceremony
Three new attractions were unveiled: the storytelling walk-through attraction Sousou no Frieren Story Walk ~Tsuisou no Tabi~, the theme restaurant Sousou no Frieren ~Tsuisou no Restaurant~, and the ride attraction Sousou no Frieren × Story Ride ~Tori no Mamono to Basha no Tabi~.
After experiencing the walk-through, Tanezaki commented, “The thrill of being in the same space as Frieren and the others is immense, but there were also moments when I felt the real distance to the first rock that Fern pierced, and times when Frieren showed us the magic that brings out a beautiful flower field – there were so many moments that almost made me cry!”
Okamoto added, “From the moment I entered the attraction, it was exactly the townscapes and scenery I’d seen in the anime. The statue of Himmel and the flower field magic were so beautiful that I could only let out cries of admiration… I almost teared up.” He expressed amazement at the immersive quality that lets guests fully experience the world of the series.
About the restaurant, Tanezaki said, “The interior decorations were lovely down to the smallest detail – wondering if that was Fern’s hair ornament, or recognizing the pumpkin that was worked on with magic.” Regarding the ride, Okamoto noted, “The characters speak to you, and at the same time you hear YOASOBI’s ‘Yuusha,’ the opening theme for the first season of the TV anime. It’s irresistible for fans!”
In front of the statue of Himmel, the two declared the program open, saying in unison, “Let’s join this adventure! Universal Cool Japan, Sousou no Frieren, opening!” They shared messages for visitors: Tanezaki described it as “a place where you can feel the world of Sousou no Frieren with your whole body,” and Okamoto added, “I think fans will definitely enjoy finding out that there was still a way to experience this series like this!”
