Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Part 2 Production Announced, New Visual Revealed

Production on the second part of the anime adaptation of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) has officially kicked off, and a new key visual has been released to mark the occasion.

The announcement comes while the latest film, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Yotsuba Keishou-hen (The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc), is currently in theaters. That film, which adapts one of the most popular arcs of the series, opened on May 8 and had drawn over 238,025 viewers as of June 1.

The newly revealed “Part 2 Production Start” visual depicts siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba walking forward together, leaving fans to wonder what future awaits the “strongest brother and sister” in the story ahead.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is based on the light novel series by Satou Tsutomu, published by Dengeki Bunko. Set in a world where magic is an established technology and training mages is a national policy, the story follows Tatsuya, an “irregular” student who carries a deficiency, and his gifted sister Miyuki as they navigate the titular magic high school. The first novel volume debuted in July 2011, and as of 2026, the series has surpassed 30 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The TV anime began with its first season in 2014 and has since aired a total of 52 episodes across three seasons. In 2017, the film Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi o Yobu Shoujo was released, and a special anime adaptation of the Tsuioku-hen (Reminiscence Arc) followed in 2021. The franchise also spans games and manga adaptations.

For moviegoers, the fourth-week bonus is a newly written short novel by Satou Tsutomu titled Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Kyomu Diver, available from May 30 to June 5. Additionally, a “Mame Tsubasa Generator” that lets fans share trivia about the film has gone live.
