The Temptation of Late-Night Ramen
“Shinya Ramen no Yuuwaku” (which can be translated as “The Temptation of Late-Night Ramen”) is an animated CM depicting popular ramen YouTuber, SUSURU, being captivated by an image of ramen he spots late at night, and then enjoying both the ramen and “Karada o Omou All-Free.”
In this CM, Yamadera Kouichi does not voice a character. Instead, he alone performs all 26 types of onomatopoeia and sound effects that appear throughout the short animation. This includes sounds like the notification tone of social media, the igniting of a gas stove flame, and the rustling sound of opening a bag of instant noodles.
SUSURU appears in the CM for the first time in animated form. The animation aims to create a mouthwatering, realistic portrayal of ramen and its sounds, making viewers feel like making ramen themselves. All of the exciting sounds that enhance this experience are recreated by Yamadera-san’s voice, allowing viewers to enjoy his exceptional “super tongue gion technique.”
The Challenge of Performing 26 Sounds
From the sound of opening a bag of ramen and a pinky finger hitting a desk, to even environmental sounds, Yamadera-san masterfully performed all 26 sound effects – a truly difficult feat for a single voice actor – using his outstanding “super tongue gion technique.” While he laughed on set, saying, “There’s no way I can do this! (lol),” he had actually practiced diligently by himself before entering the studio.
One particularly memorable episode he shared was about recreating the sound of a refrigerator. He researched the sound by opening and closing his own refrigerator many times at home!
The editing room was filled with surprise and excitement each time Yamadera-san reproduced a sound with his voice, with reactions like, “Wait, did he just recreate that sound with his voice!?”, “This is too amazing…”, and “I got goosebumps (lol).”
Regarding the sounds he particularly wants people to listen to, Yamadera-san mentioned, “It’s the social media notification sound. I think many people do it with a whistle, but I wanted to do it with my voice, so I practiced it the most (lol).” He also sent a message saying, “People often ask me what the most difficult role I’ve ever had as a voice actor is. Next time I’m asked, I think I’ll answer with this job (lol).”

Q. How did you feel when you received this request to perform sound effects instead of voicing a character?
Since I’ve liked making various sounds and doing impersonations since I was a child, I was interested, and at first, I simply thought, “This sounds fun!” However, when I saw the reference materials sent to me, I remember thinking, “There’s no way I can do this! lol.”
The staff beforehand asked me to make it “as realistic as possible,” and while wondering what to do, I practiced every day. I became a refrigerator, a bag, a green onion, and performed by getting into the feeling of each object.
Q. Which sound was the most difficult or challenging for you?
Well, there were many difficult ones, lol. The refrigerator sound and the sound of opening a bag of instant noodles were particularly challenging. Sounds of things hitting each other are quite difficult. I was also asked to make the sound of a pinky finger hitting a desk, which I had never been asked to do before, lol. Anyway, there were many difficult things.
Q. Which sound did you do particularly well on and would like people to listen to?
It’s the social media notification sound. I think many people do it with a whistle, but I wanted to do it with my voice, so I practiced it the most, lol. So I think that’s a highlight.
