Episode 46 of the TV anime *Kusuriya no Hitorigoto*, titled “Kingun”, aired on June 13, 2025. The reunion scene between Maomao and Jinshi quickly became a hot topic on social media.

*Kusuriya no Hitorigoto* is a palace mystery entertainment series based on the novel by Hyuuga Natsu, published under “Hero Bunko”, which has also received manga adaptations serialized in “Big Gangan” and “Sunday GX”. The series boasts a cumulative total of over 38 million copies sold. Set in a fictional Eastern land reminiscent of medieval times, the story follows Maomao, a young woman who serves as a “poison taster” and solves various difficult cases occurring within the imperial court.

The first season of the TV anime began airing in October 2023, followed by the second season in January 2025. The series has consistently ranked high on various streaming platforms, garnering significant attention. A dedicated exhibition, “TV Anime *Kusuriya no Hitorigoto* Exhibition”, started on March 26 this year, and a collaboration with Universal Studios Japan is planned for this summer, indicating that the excitement for the series is only set to continue.

Ro-ran’s Fate and Maomao’s Compassion

In the previous episode, Episode 45, Ro-ran (Shisui)’s upbringing and the harsh fate she carries were revealed, leading to many comments on social media expressing sorrow, such as “How painful…” and “I can’t stop crying.”

Moving into Episode 46, after learning about Ro-ran’s past and hearing her inner feelings, Maomao tries to stop Ro-ran from heading towards Jinme. Maomao gives Ro-ran the hairpin she received from Jinshi, asking her to “at least let me make a wish for you” and making her promise to “definitely return it.”

Jinshi’s Arrival and the Truth Revealed

While this exchange was happening, Jinshi, leading the “Kingun” (Forbidden Army), was approaching the fort. Leading the Forbidden Army, the Emperor’s direct military force, meant that Jinshi’s “true identity” would be exposed to Maomao. When Kao Shun warned him, “From now on, you must change how you interact with that girl,” Jinshi replied, “I know…”

And so, following Rakan and Rahan’s plan, the Forbidden Army launched a surprise attack on the night the snow stopped. They caused an avalanche that buried the armory, and Ro-ran set fire to the gunpowder storage, rendering gunpowder unusable. The army reached the fort in no time.

Inside the besieged fort, Maomao found herself in a precarious situation. She knew she might be mistaken for part of the Shi clan if discovered, but she couldn’t take her eyes off the children entrusted to her by Ro-ran. Wishing for “someone reasonable to talk to,” the person who entered the room where Maomao was hiding turned out to be Jinshi.

Although she was briefly surprised by his armored appearance, Maomao calmly said, “Could you please protect us, Jinshi-sama?” Jinshi, on the other hand, was flustered, asking, “Are you injured!?” Their interaction somehow made Maomao feel a sense of nostalgia.

Just then, a soldier who arrived addressed Jinshi as “Toutou” (Crown Prince), and Maomao finally realized Jinshi’s true identity.

Fan Reactions to the Reunion and Reveal

Having finally reunited, and with Maomao now knowing Jinshi’s true identity as the Emperor’s brother, fans took to social media to share their excitement. Comments included “Jinshi-sama in armor is too cool!!” “It’s great that even after they finally reunited, their interaction is still just like usual,” and “It’s so like them that it wasn’t a dramatic reunion lol”.
