The manga Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi (Fake Alchemist) is getting a TV anime adaptation, it has been announced. The animation production will be handled by Passione. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual and a TV anime adaptation commemorative PV have been released, along with comments from original story writer Sugiura Jiro and artist Umemaru.
Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi is a new landmark in isekai fantasy manga, written by Sugiura Jiro and illustrated by Umemaru. Originally an indie work that achieved legendary buzz, its commercial edition has sold over 1 million copies in total.
The story is set in the city-state of Orichalconia, a world where alchemy and magic are deeply woven into daily life. Paracelsus, a reincarnated person, makes a modest living as an alchemist while hiding his “cheat skill.” One day, he forms a contract with Nora, a slave and sorceress, and meets Coco, an elf who has lost her limbs and all senses. His attempt to save Coco from a small workshop gradually escalates into a battle involving alchemy, sorcery, the cosmos, and even gods.
The TV anime adaptation is being produced by Passione, known for many popular fantasy works. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual and a commemorative PV showing the process of creating the animated visual of Nora have been released.
Upon the announcement of the TV anime adaptation, original story writer Sugiura expressed his gratitude: “I never thought the day would come when Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi would become an anime… I’m really surprised. This is all thanks to everyone who supported us. Thank you so much!”
Artist Umemaru also shared their joy: “I am very happy that this beloved work, which I have been involved with as the artist, will be given new life by the wonderful staff. As a fan of Nise-ren, I look forward to the day when I can enjoy the finished animation together with everyone.” Both Sugiura and Umemaru contributed illustrations.
