The Tamagotchi is a digital pet created by Bandai, first released on November 23, 1996, sparking a massive boom among high school girls. After a revival in 2004 with the ‘Kaettekita! Tamagotchi Plus’ featuring infrared communication, the series has expanded globally with new features and gameplay. As of the end of July 2025, cumulative worldwide shipments have reached 100 million units.
