The Rising of the Shield Hero (Shield no Yuusha no Nariagari) Season 5 has been confirmed for a 2027 broadcast. Alongside the announcement, a teaser PV and teaser visual have been unveiled, and director Haga Hitoshi, returning from Seasons 3 and 4, has shared a comment.
The series is an isekai fantasy based on the light novel by Aneko Yusagi, originally serialized on the novel submission site Shousetsuka ni Narou and published under the MF Books label. It follows university student Iwatani Naofumi, who is summoned to another world as the Shield Hero, one of the four Cardinal Heroes, and rises from a position of utter loss.
The TV anime first aired Season 1 from January to June 2019, Season 2 from April to June 2022, and Season 3 from October to December 2023. Season 4 began in July 2025 and concluded on September 24 with its 12th episode.
The announcement was made during the Crunchyroll Industry Panel at Anime Expo 2026, held in Los Angeles, USA, on July 3 local time (early morning July 4 Japan time).
The teaser visual features a monochrome illustration of Naofumi and the other three Cardinal Heroes along with the Hakuko siblings standing back-to-back, with a specially designed red logo that gives the image a strong presence.
In the teaser PV, the main staff for Season 5 was also revealed. Director Haga Hitoshi, who continues from Seasons 3 and 4, commented: “I am honored to be directing the fifth season as well. Thank you. Naofumi and his party have been steadily preparing for the approaching battle against the phoenix, together with the other three heroes and new allies. We, the staff, are putting our hearts into production so that everyone can fully enjoy Naofumi’s new adventure.”
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 is scheduled to air in 2027. Further updates are awaited.
