The summer anime Otome Kaijuu Caramelize has released a synopsis and advance scene cuts for its second episode, titled “The Door That Won’t Open” (開かない扉), which begins airing on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Based on the manga by Aoki Spica, which has been serialized in KADOKAWA’s Monthly Comic Alive since 2018 and has sold over 230,000 copies, Otome Kaijuu Caramelize is a romantic comedy with a twist. The story follows high school girl Kuroe (Akashi Kuroe), who suffers from a mysterious illness. Awkward and avoiding social interaction, she unexpectedly falls for the popular boy Minami Arata. But when she becomes aware of her feelings, a dormant power awakens, transforming her into a giant monster. The series promises a clash between love and reason, overturning the conventions of shoujo manga.
Directed by Oomine Teruyuki, the animation is produced by Liden Films. The cast includes Chiga Hikari as Akashi Kuroe, Kajita Daishi as Minami Arata, Sekine Akira as Yuri Manatsu, Shiraishi Haruka as Kouno Raimu, Mitsuishi Kotono as Akashi Rinko, Konishi Katsuyuki as Hibiki Koutarou, and Matsui Eriko as Jumbo King.
Episode 2 “The Door That Won’t Open” Synopsis
Kuroe becomes the giant monster Halgon due to her emotional excitement. She is interested in Arata, but the beautiful girl Manatsu appears, and Kuroe suffers heartbreak.
“I won’t ever feel that way again, so I won’t become a monster anymore…”
But that night, a new monster appears…
Episode 2 of Otome Kaijuu Caramelize will air on TBS, BS11, and AT-X starting July 9 (Thursday).
