P.A.WORKS Unveils Original Full-Fledged Love Story “Eikyuu no Yuugure” Airing in October, Starring Umeda Shuuichirou, Ishikawa Yui, Kayano Ai, and More

P.A.WORKS is set to deliver a full-fledged original love story with their new TV anime, Eikyuu no Yuugure. The series is scheduled to air simultaneously nationwide starting October 2025, as part of the MBS/TBS network’s 28-station “Super Animeism TURBO” programming block. Alongside this announcement, a teaser visual and teaser PV have been released. Key staff members, including Director and Series Composition writer Tsuda Naokatsu, as well as the main cast, featuring Umeda Shuuichirou, Ishikawa Yui, and Kayano Ai, have also been revealed, along with their comments.

A Love Story Across Time

The stage for Eikyuu no Yuugure is set in a future world where AI technology has advanced significantly. The story kicks off when the protagonist, Himegami Akira, who swore eternal love to his dearest partner, Oomaki Towasa, awakens from a long period of cold sleep. However, the world that greets Akira upon his awakening is vastly different – a city devastated by war lies before him.

Nations have crumbled, people are controlled by a unified organization known as OWEL, and a new system called “ELCI,” distinct from traditional marriage, has been implemented. Akira is left stunned and bewildered, abandoned in a future that has completely transformed from the world he once knew.

Adding to his confusion, an android named Yuugure, strikingly similar to Towasa, appears before him and proposes marriage. Though bewildered by this sudden proposal from an android, Akira decides to journey with Yuugure, clinging to the belief that he might still reunite with Towasa, who must be alive somewhere in this new world. Along their path, the two witness the new forms of love in this era and are prompted to contemplate the nature of their own love. This is the setup for the earnest love story that unfolds.

The teaser visual depicts the heroine, Yuugure, sitting amidst rubble with a devastated city and a twilight sky in the background. Furthermore, a teaser PV has been released, offering glimpses of scenes that serve as a prologue to the story and revealing the character voices for the first time, featuring the protagonist Himegami Akira and the heroine Yuugure.

Meet the Staff and Cast

Key staff information has also been unveiled. Under the direction and series composition of Tsuda Naokatsu, the original character designs are handled by Tayama Aoi, character designs for animation are by Saitou Yoshiko, and the music is composed by Tokuda Masahiro. The main cast features Umeda Shuuichirou, Ishikawa Yui, and Kayano Ai.

Umeda Shuuichirou voices Himegami Akira, the protagonist who suffers severe injuries in an incident, falls unconscious, undergoes cold sleep, and awakens in the future world. Ishikawa Yui plays Yuugure, the android who pressures Akira into marriage in this future world. Kayano Ai takes on the role of Oomaki Towasa, a genius scientist who develops cutting-edge AI technology and is Akira’s childhood friend.

When summer comes, I feel like reading sci-fi.
Second sleep in the morning is my standard.
I’m the type who showers in the morning.
I thought about this work envisioning people who want to live their lives based on their established values and methods but aren’t allowed to.
Whether you feel like this is about you or not, I believe we’ve made an anime that everyone can enjoy, that makes you ponder unique values a little, and that you’ll want to talk about with others.
However, the origin of the project was thinking, “It would be unbearable if I woke up in the distant future and a stunningly beautiful and cute android proposed marriage to me.”

Well, simply put… that’s what it is.

Tayama Aoi (Character Original Design)

I usually draw manga.
This is my first time being involved in anime production, and I’m very happy to be able to participate in the world I’ve admired since I was a child.
Since it’s an original anime, the process of shaping the characters from the director’s envisioned images and scenario was more fun than I imagined; I was so absorbed I forgot it was work.
I aimed for a standard design with an image that goes from the near future to the distant future, but with a touch of nostalgia somewhere.
I also incorporated my own hobbies and preferences.
I would be delighted if many people enjoy the work!

Saitou Yoshiko (Character Design)

I never thought the day would come when I’d be in charge of character design at P.A.WORKS…! And the staff members are so amazing… I’m extremely humbled! This is my first time designing for an original work, and it was quite challenging to grasp the characters’ personalities; I kept thinking, “Is it like this? Or like this?” while drawing.
At that time, Director Tsuda told me, “There’s no right answer, draw it as you like. It’s an original work!” and I felt a weight lifted from my shoulders.
Tayama-sensei’s original drawings have very attractive features, like theメリハリ (merihari – sharpness/contrast) in the silhouettes and the exquisite lines of the clothing that doesn’t look too simple. Turning these into settings that the staff could understand was quite difficult, and no matter how much I drew, it wasn’t enough. The older sisters with pretty good styles move around, so I hope you enjoy the story while looking for your favorites among the “cute, beautiful, and healthy!!” characters.

Tokuda Masahiro (Music)

I am truly honored to have been able to compose the music for “Eikyuu no Yuugure.”
I carefully composed each piece while considering how I could envelop the time flowing in this world, the characters’ feelings, and their quiet breaths with sound. In particular, the main theme, as the core piece of the work, was something I struggled a lot with how to express, but because of that, I am very much looking forward to seeing how it will be used in the main story and what kind of effect it will have on the narrative, even as a single viewer.
I feel that the serious passion of the wonderful staff members is what makes this work irreplaceable. I hope that the impulses the story emits and the gaze towards the future will reach everyone’s hearts along with the music.

Q. Please tell us about the charm of this work and your enthusiasm for appearing in it.

Akira can be too straightforward, and he sometimes gets lost, but he also has determination and can be relied upon when it matters. I will do my best to play Akira, who shows various expressions while having a strong core, with the feeling of journeying alongside him.
On his journey to find Towasa, Akira meets many people, has conversations, and touches upon their important things, which is depicted in this work.
Some things change with time, while others remain the same. It’s a work that often makes you feel warmth. Of course, please also look forward to the powerful combat scenes!

Ishikawa Yui (Yuugure)

Q. Please tell us about the charm of this work and your enthusiasm for appearing in it.

I realized through this work that there are so many forms of love! I feel like it’s asking us a question: the values we take for granted now might not be taken for granted in the future.
I play Yuugure, an android who looks just like Towasa. The secret hidden within her and the powerful combat scenes are also one of the highlights! I want to carefully portray the subtle shifts in her heart, as she holds very sincere feelings.

Q. Please tell us about the charm of this work and your enthusiasm for appearing in it.

I was strongly drawn to the advanced story and stylish characters.
The time spent diligently working on the project with Director Tsuda, the staff, and the cast, united as one, was very enriching, and I believe the message contained within it is directed towards us who will live in the future.
I can’t wait to share the emotions that arise from experiencing this work with everyone.
