The popular anime and manga series Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) is teaming up with the Vermeer Girl with a Pearl Earring exhibition for a special collaboration. A newly drawn illustration of Frieren dressed in the iconic pearl earring outfit has been released, and fans are already showering it with praise.
About the Collaboration
Sousou no Frieren is a manga by Yamada Kanehito (story) and Abe Tsukasa (art), serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. The story follows the elf mage Frieren, who once defeated the Demon King alongside the hero party, as she embarks on a new journey in a world after the hero’s death. The first TV anime season aired from September 2023 to March 2024, and the second season ran in the January 2026 anime season, earning widespread acclaim and regularly trending on X (formerly Twitter). Shortly after the second season finale, a third season covering the Golden Land arc was announced for October 2027 on Nippon TV, exciting fans worldwide.
Now, in conjunction with the Vermeer Girl with a Pearl Earring exhibition, a related book fair will be held at bookstores nationwide starting July 20, 2026. Select stores will also offer early sales of five types of exhibition original goods, including collaboration items featuring Sousou no Frieren.
New Illustration and Fan Reactions
The collaboration goods use a newly drawn illustration by series artist Abe Tsukasa. It depicts Frieren wearing the costume of the Girl with a Pearl Earring, with Fern holding a picture frame beside her. The official X account posted the illustration, and fans responded enthusiastically:

Exhibition and Goods Details
The Vermeer Girl with a Pearl Earring exhibition will run from August 21 to September 27, 2026, at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka (5th floor exhibition room). It is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last entry 4:30 p.m.), with extended hours on select dates until 8:00 p.m. (last entry 7:30 p.m.). The exhibition is organized by the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, The Asahi Shimbun, and Asahi Television Broadcasting, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The related book fair will run from July 20, 2026, at approximately 270 bookstores nationwide. The collaboration goods will be available at around 80 bookstores from the same date. The full lineup of original goods includes:
