The summer anime Youjo Senki II has released a synopsis and scene cuts for its second episode, titled “Strange Friendship,” which begins airing on July 15, 2026 (Wednesday).
Based on the novel series by Carlo Zen, which has surpassed 12 million copies in cumulative circulation, Youjo Senki is a military fantasy that follows a rationalist elite salaryman reincarnated as the golden-haired, blue-eyed little girl Tanya Degurechaff (voiced by Yuki Aoi). Despite her cute appearance, she rises to become an elite mage officer feared as the “Devil of the Battlefield.” The series is known for its authentic aerial combat scenes and has been a popular isekai title. The first TV anime season aired in 2017, followed by a theatrical film in 2019.
In the second season, directed by Yamamoto Takayuki and produced by studio NUT, the story takes place in the autumn of Unified Year 1926. Lieutenant Colonel Tanya von Degurechaff is appointed commander of the newly formed Salamander Combat Group and once again throws herself into the brutal front lines. Though the ad hoc unit looks formidable on the surface, it is in reality a motley crew. Tanya rages against the absurd reality, wondering if they can truly fight a war with this. To make matters worse, the Federation’s winter arrives too early, and the Empire finds itself stuck in a quagmire with no exit. Every nation demands an overwhelming victory to end it all, but no one knows what they truly want or what it really means. Tanya continues to stand at the forefront of the upheaval.
Episode 2: “Strange Friendship”
With the arrival of winter, supply conditions on the Eastern Front worsen further.
The Salamander Combat Group, fighting daily defensive battles, is also greatly exhausted by guerrilla attacks on their supply lines.
Episode 2 of Youjo Senki II will air on July 15 (Wednesday) on AT-X, TOKYO MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, BS11, and TV Aichi.
