The identity of the new Precure, Cure Éclair, has finally been unveiled in episode 25 of the TV anime Meitantei Precure!, which aired on July 19. The mysterious heroine is none other than Hoba Kurea.
Meitantei Precure! is the 23rd entry in the Precure series, which began airing on February 1, 2026. The story follows 14-year-old middle school student Akechi Anna, who lives in Makoto Mirai Town. Guided by a mysterious power, she time-slips from the present day to 1999. There she meets Kobayashi Mikuru, a girl her age who dreams of becoming a great detective. Together, they transform into the “Meitantei Precure” to help people whose precious belongings have been stolen and to confront the villainous group “Kaitoudan Phantom.”
From episode 21 on June 21, a four-week campaign titled “Who Is Cure Éclair’s True Identity?” was held, featuring four candidates: Hoba Kurea, Kurusu Eliza, Kaneda Rei, and Ieiri Shiruku. A voting project that invited fans to predict who would become Cure Éclair received over 250,000 entries, sparking huge discussion among fans.
In episode 25, it was confirmed that Hoba Kurea is Cure Éclair, bringing the Precure team to four members. A new fairy companion for Cure Éclair, named Shushutan, also made her debut.
Meanwhile, many mysteries remain, including why Cure Arcana Shadow belongs to Kaitoudan Phantom and her true intentions in confronting Cure Éclair. With the addition of a new Precure, the story is set to move forward even more dramatically.
To celebrate the reveal of Cure Éclair’s identity, various campaigns will begin on July 25, including the distribution of an “Extra Edition Summer Guide” around Yokohama Minato Mirai, a “Get the Cure Éclair Sticker Campaign,” and the “Precure Makoto Jewel Summer Campaign.” Details are available on the official website.

— How did you feel when you were chosen to play a Precure?
“Of course I auditioned, but I never imagined I would one day voice a Precure, so I was shocked! And right after that, I was told, ‘You must keep the fact that you are Cure Éclair a secret from everyone, including your co-stars.’ My head was full of ‘????’ It was a mix of surprise, joy, and confusion. I held back the urge to tell the people around me and everyone who supports me, so now that this comment is out, I think I’m happily reporting to all sorts of people!”
— What do you find appealing about the Precure series?
“The coexistence of cuteness and coolness. They are both heroines and heroes… I think that’s why they are so admired and captivating.”
— What is your impression of Cure Éclair / Hoba Kurea, the character you play?
“She is especially like an older sister among the four Precure. From the way she has talked with Anna and the others so far, I got an impression of her intelligence. Above all, she is a girl who empathizes with others’ hearts. I am also performing while cherishing that warm and gentle atmosphere of Kurea. Also, pay attention to the contrast when she transforms into a Precure! I want everyone to get to know Cure Éclair a lot from now on.”
— What are your thoughts on the ‘Who Is Cure Éclair’s True Identity?’ campaign, and were there any difficulties or efforts due to the mystery surrounding her?
“Once the campaign started, I was counting down the days until this announcement! The other candidate characters were all very charming, so I’m full of mixed emotions and excitement right now, wondering what kind of reaction there will be when the truth is revealed. But precisely because of that, I am facing Cure Éclair with a love that no one can beat, so that everyone will come to love Cure Éclair and Kurea. By the way, I kept my identity hidden at the recording studio the whole time, so it was tough to make sure my co-stars didn’t find out, but it was fun! (laughs)”

“Hoba Kurea is a girl I admire even from my perspective. Because I admire her, I am sure I can express her charm. I have been storing up a lot of energy in secret until now!
