The 10th anniversary project for the TV anime Koutetsujou no Kabaneri has kicked off a new initiative titled “Mumei Ranman” (無名爛漫), centered around a commemorative illustration by character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto. The project also includes a 1/6 scale figure and a special movie produced by the original staff, including director Tetsurou Araki.
Koutetsujou no Kabaneri originally aired on Fuji TV’s noitamina block in 2016. Set in the fictional island nation of Hinomoto during a transition from early modern to modern times, the story follows the battle between humans and the Kabane—undead monsters that suddenly appeared and multiplied explosively. Directed by Tetsurou Araki, the animation was produced by WIT STUDIO. The protagonist, the steam smith boy Ikoma, was voiced by Yuu Hatanaka, while the mysterious girl Mumei, who arrives aboard the armored steam locomotive Koutetsujou, was voiced by Sayaka Senbongi.
The series remains popular to this day, with compilation films released in December 2016 and January 2017, and a sequel film Koutetsujou no Kabaneri: Unato Kessen in 2019. The 10th anniversary project began in February 2026 to commemorate the broadcast anniversary in April 2026, under the theme “Koutetsujou no Juunen Tabiji” (Ten Years’ Journey), with plans to revisit the series’ decade-long history.
The newly unveiled 10th anniversary illustration “Mumei Ranman” was drawn by Mikimoto. Based on this artwork, a 1/6 scale figure has been opened for pre-order. Additionally, a commemorative movie celebrating the figure’s release has been produced, reuniting the original staff including director Araki. The special video created for this project is a must-see.
The 1/6 scale figure, officially named “Koutetsujou no Kabaneri Mumei Ranman Scale Figure [Mumei],” brings Mumei’s delicate yet powerful presence to life, inspired by the newly drawn illustration and the commemorative PV’s world.
