The manga Youmi no Tsugai, drawn by none other than Arakawa Hiromu, the creator of the globally beloved masterpiece Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, has been officially announced to receive a TV anime adaptation. Just like the Hagane no Renkinjutsushi series, Bonzu Firumu will handle the animation production. Alongside this exciting news, a striking teaser visual and a special promotional video have been released. The main staff involved in the production has also been revealed, and a special commemorative comment from the original author, Arakawa Hiromu, has arrived.

Youmi no Tsugai is the latest work by Arakawa Hiromu, who continues to garner passionate support both domestically and internationally for her iconic series Hagane no Renkinjutsushi. This phantom-like fantasy, where mystery and 怪奇 (strange, eerie occurrences) intertwine, is currently serialized in Gekkan Shounen Gangan.

The story follows Yuur, a young boy living in a small village deep in the mountains. He spends his days hunting wild birds and living a quiet life surrounded by nature. However, Yuur’s twin sister, Asa, is inexplicably held in a prison-like structure deep within the village, seemingly fulfilling an “obligation.” A strange mystery hovers over this seemingly peaceful village – what secrets are hidden here? This new kind of “Tsugai” battle unfolds as mystery and 怪奇 converge.

The series has already surpassed 4 million copies in cumulative circulation, and the latest volume, the 10th volume, is set to be released on July 11th.

A Powerful Team Reunites

The announcement of the TV anime adaptation was made at a Crunchyroll panel during “AnimeEXPO2025.” The production team mirrors that of the anime Hagane no Renkinjutsushi series, which aired and was released from 2003 to 2011, bringing together the formidable lineup of Sukuea Enikkusu, Anipurekkusu, and Bonzu.

The anime Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, affectionately known by fans as “Hagaren,” captivated many hearts with its blend of fantasy elements like alchemy and darker themes concerning human life, ethics, morality, love, and desire, all brought to life through dynamic yet delicate animation. Fifteen years after the completion of the TV anime series for Hagaren, this strong team is now embarking on a new stage with Youmi no Tsugai.

The concurrently released teaser visual depicts the protagonist Yuur standing alone on a desolate land, gripping a bow, with two stone statues at his back, glaring intently as if to strike down an enemy. It gives a palpable sense of the great battle that is about to loom. The special promotional video, teeming with countless swirling Tsugai, offers a glimpse into the world of Youmi no Tsugai. Coupled with Yuur’s expression at the end, the video hints that the story is about to kick into high gear.

Main Staff Revealed

The main staff includes Director Andou Masahiro, known for his work on Sutorenjia -Mukou Hadan- and Zetsuen no Tenpesuto. Comment from Original Author: Arakawa Hiromu

Not animecha!! Actually, the anime adaptation was decided quite a while ago, and I’ve been impatiently waiting for a long time for the day I could announce this to the world. We were able to reach this point thanks to everyone’s support. Thank you very much!

As I’m writing this comment, I haven’t yet met the moving Yuur and Asa, but in the storyboards from Andou Kantoku that keep coming in, they are moving around quite lively and spiritedly. Seeing them already so dynamic on paper, and then to think they’ll have voices added, colors added, sounds added… what a fun anime it’s going to turn into! I’m really looking forward to it!

There’s still a little while until the broadcast, but please re-read the existing volumes to prepare and look forward to it!

Official website, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok accounts have also been opened. Further updates on the TV anime Youmi no Tsugai are eagerly awaited!
