Manga FAIRY TAIL is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the start of a new series, FAIRY TAIL RE:FANTASIA. To commemorate, illustrations from various manga artists across different publishers have been revealed. Contributors include Morikawa George (Hajime no Ippo), Yudetamago (Kinnikuman), Togashi Yoshihiro (Hunter × Hunter), and others, all depicting Natsu and friends.
A Beloved Battle Fantasy
FAIRY TAIL, created by Mashima Hiro, began serialization in 2006 and became a global phenomenon spanning manga, TV anime, movies, stage plays, games, and merchandise. The original manga concluded in 2017, and the TV anime ended in 2019. From July 2024 to January 2025, the direct sequel FAIRY TAIL 100 Years Quest, with story by Mashima and art by Ueda Atsuo, was adapted into a TV anime.
New Series: FAIRY TAIL RE:FANTASIA
Now, starting from the July 29 issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine (issue 35), Mashima Hiro’s latest work, a completely new story titled FAIRY TAIL RE:FANTASIA, has begun a short-term serialization. This marks Mashima’s return to Weekly Shonen Magazine after two years.
Along with the new series, a number of artists who love FAIRY TAIL contributed illustrations with comments. The contributors include: Morikawa George (Hajime no Ippo), Seo Kouji (Ano Shima no Kaionsō), Yoshikawa Miki (Cuckoo no Fiancé), Ueda Atsuo (FAIRY TAIL 100 Years Quest), Yudetamago (Kinnikuman), and Togashi Yoshihiro (Hunter × Hunter). Each artist has drawn the characters from their own perspective, adding vibrant color to the anniversary. Tankobon Release and Special Edition
The tankobon release of FAIRY TAIL RE:FANTASIA has already been announced. Two editions will be available from October 16: a regular edition and a special edition. The special edition includes a set of 16 postcards featuring illustrations from Mashima and the contributing artists. The postcard set includes:
- Celebration illustration postcards from Morikawa George, Seo Kouji, Yoshikawa Miki, Ueda Atsuo, and Togashi Yoshihiro.
- Color postcards from Weekly Shonen Magazine covers, tankobon covers, opening color pages, and center color pages.
- Monochrome postcards selecting memorable scenes from the main story.
