The Legendary Manga

The new anime is based on the hugely influential action-sci-fi manga created by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Their work was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, running from September 1983 to August 1988. The manga was compiled into 27 volumes by Shueisha, with the first volume released in March 1984 and the final 27th volume shipping in March 1989. This classic series has captivated readers for decades with its brutal action and enduring themes.

English Release

For fans outside of Japan, VIZ Media has been publishing the manga in English under their VIZ Signature imprint. The 17th volume was released recently on June 24, and the 18th volume is scheduled to go on sale later this year on September 23.

Previous Anime Adaptation

This isn’t the first time Hokuto no Ken: Fist of the North Star has received an anime adaptation. Toei Animation previously produced a television anime series that originally aired for 109 episodes from October 1984 to March 1987. A second season followed, airing for 43 episodes from March 1987 to February 1988, further expanding on the saga.
