Delving into the Source Material

The **Kijin Gentoushou** anime is based on the historical fantasy novel series written by Motoo Nakanishi. Nakanishi originally began writing the story on the novel publishing website Arcadia way back in January 2013, concluding that version in May 2016. A continuation later appeared on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website from September to October of the same year.

Futabasha started publishing the novel officially with illustrations by Tamaki in June 2019. The 14th volume hit shelves in November 2023.

For those who prefer manga, a manga adaptation by Yuu Satomi is serialized in **Monthly Action**, starting in September 2021. Futabasha released the eighth volume of the manga on March 19th.

Stateside fans will be happy to know that Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed both the light novel and the manga adaptation, acquiring the rights in February 2022. The ninth light novel volume was released on May 20th, with the 10th volume planned for an August 19th release. The sixth manga volume went on sale on January 28th, and the seventh volume is scheduled for a September 9th release.
