The 29th episode of the TV anime Meitantei Precure!, titled “Two People’s Past” (Futari no Kako), aired on August 16, 2026, and immediately stirred up social media with the reveal of Cure Arcana’s visual.
Meitantei Precure! is the 23rd installment in the Precure franchise. The story follows protagonist Akechi Anna, who time-slips to 1999 and takes on various mysteries at the Kuiato Detective Agency. The series’ first theatrical film, Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu, is scheduled for nationwide release on September 18.

In the episode, Anna and her companions enter the world of Kurea’s memories thanks to the power of Dechi Again and Goemon. There, they find a young Kurea and Ruruka living at the London branch of the Kuiato Detective Agency three years earlier.
At that time, the two hear from agency chief Mafuru about how humans and fairies used to be the best partners, but that bond was lost when humans stopped believing in fairies. Inspired, they decide to become detectives who can restore smiles to everyone.
The two then take a detective test. Ruruka passes, but Kurea fails because, despite uncovering the truth of a case, she cannot bring herself to accuse a certain girl. This moment becomes the origin of Kurea’s philosophy that “pursuing the truth” and “pursuing the culprit” are not the same.
Through these memories, it becomes clear that Kurea and Ruruka didn’t set out to become detectives alone from the start. The appearance of three fairies in the past also raises new questions about how they might connect to the current Phantom Thieves.
Fans on social media have reacted strongly to the pair’s backstory, with comments like “It was heavier than I expected” and “The reason the two aimed to be detectives finally connects here!” Many are also theorizing that the three fairies could be the Phantom trio, given the setting that humans and fairies were once best partners.
The episode also brought a major change to the latter-half ending. Cure Arcana Shadow, a Precure on the enemy side, appeared in a new white-based form as “Cure Arcana.”
This new look drew excitement with fans saying “Cure Arcana is so cute!” and “I can’t wait for Ruruka to become Cure Arcana!” Many are wondering whether Ruruka, previously portrayed as an antagonist, will become an ally, and how she’ll transform into this white-clad Precure.
