August 19 is Haikyuu!! Day, and this year’s celebration kicked off with a special treat: a brand-new handwritten illustration from series creator Furudate Haruichi. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the franchise, @haikyu_com, shared the drawing with a message encouraging fans to get excited for the day.
The illustration includes a note from Furudate that reads (in Japanese): “Today is Haikyuu!! Day, August 19! Retsu-sensei’s ‘Sude Hina Garasu ①’ goes on sale today! It includes a collaboration manga featuring Hina Garasu and the manga’s Hinata! Also, at 8:19 PM, ‘Haikyuu!! RECEPTION’ will be streamed! I hear there’s a ton of new info! — Furudate Haruichi, 2026 ☆ 8.19 ☆”
Fans were overjoyed, flooding the comments with messages like “So happy from the morning. Thank you for the illustration! Can’t wait for the stream!” and “The day has finally come—our feast!” Others chimed in with “It’s here again, the 819 day!” and “Thank you for the new drawing, sensei.”
Voice actor Okamoto Nobuhiko, who voices Nishinoya Yuu in the anime, also acknowledged the day with a simple post: “Today is August 19, Haikyuu!! Day.” Fans responded enthusiastically, with comments like “The once-a-year Haikyuu!! Day!” and “I love Nobuhiko’s Nishinoya!”
In addition to the celebration, major announcements are on the horizon. The JUMP MV for Furudate Haruichi’s work will premiere on the Jump Channel at 19:00 (JST). Titled “Haikyuu!! Furudate Haruichi × ‘PHOENIX’ BURNOUT SYNDROMES,” the video features the band’s fifth major single, which was inspired by the emotions felt during the Shiratorizawa arc.
Furthermore, ABEMA is marking Haikyuu!! Day with a massive free marathon broadcast. Starting at 22:00 on August 19, the streaming service will air the entire TV anime series—all 85 episodes—along with OAD and OVA episodes, and the puppet anime “Haikyuu!!” over three days, until August 21. This is the perfect opportunity to revisit the intense battles and heartfelt youth of Karasuno’s volleyball team. And for those looking ahead, 2027 will bring two new productions: “Haikyuu!! VS Chiisana Kyojin” (the movie featuring Karasuno against Oudai Academy) and the special anime “Haikyuu!!
