To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Pierrot’s magical girl series and the broadcast of the latest entry, Mahou no Shimai Lulutolily, the Mahou no Star Magical Emi 40th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX (limited edition) will be released on August 26, 2026, priced at 36,300 yen (tax included).
Originally aired from June 1985 to February 1986 with a total of 38 episodes, Mahou no Star Magical Emi is the third installment in the Pierrot magical girl series, following Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami and Mahou no Yousei Persia. The series featured Yoko Obata, then a newcomer singer, as the lead voice actress; she also performed the opening, ending, and insert songs. The anime was directed by Takashi Anno (known for Spirit of Wonder and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou), with character designs by Yoshiyuki Kishi (Osomatsu-kun, Heisei Tensai Bakabon).
This Blu-ray BOX includes all 38 TV episodes, film-remastered, with video extras in HD remaster. The main episodes are spread across five Blu-ray discs, while a sixth bonus disc contains four OVA works: Mahou no Star Magical Emi – Semishigure –, Mahou no Star Magical Emi – Kumohikaru –, Finale! Finale!, and Ade Sugata Mahou no Sannin Musume.
In addition to the OVAs, the bonus disc includes non-credit opening and ending sequences, the apology film “Gomen nasai Film” shown during the Magical Girl Festival, and the music clip “Kaze no invitation”. The package also comes with a special booklet, a newly drawn illustration by character designer Yoshiyuki Kishi used for the inner jacket and the box, and five newly recorded audio commentary tracks.
The audio commentaries feature cast and staff members, including Yutaka Mizushima, Naoki Tatsuta, Yuuko Mita, Kazuyoshi Katayama, Yumiko Horasawa, Koji Shimada, Kazue Ikura, Toru Horikoshi, and Michitaka Kikuchi (also known as Kia Asamiya). Commentary episodes include the first episode “Fushigi Tanjou Mahou no Star,” episode 16 “Suteki Power Driver,” episode 21 “Ganbare! Dokidoki Game,” the final episode 38 “Sayonara Yumeiro Magician,” and the OVA Mahou no Star Magical Emi – Semishigure – (director’s choice version).
As a special offer, customers who purchase or reserve all four Pierrot magical girl series Anniversary Blu-ray BOXes — Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami, Mahou no Yousei Persia, Mahou no Star Magical Emi, and Mahou no Idol Pastel Yumi — at participating stores will receive a vertical B5 acrylic panel featuring newly drawn illustrations.
The other Anniversary boxes are also available or upcoming: Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami (39,600 yen, tax included) and Mahou no Yousei Persia (39,600 yen, tax included) are already on sale, while Mahou no Idol Pastel Yumi (30,800 yen, tax included) is scheduled for release on October 28, 2026.
