Studio Pierrot’s magical girl series is celebrating its legacy with a series of anniversary Blu-ray boxes. The fourth installment, Mahou no Idol Pastel Yumi, will be released on October 28, 2026, as part of the Pierrot Magical Girl Series Anniversary Blu-ray BOX lineup. This marks the first time the 1986 series will be available on Blu-ray.
Series Overview
Directed by Akira Shigino, Mahou no Idol Pastel Yumi aired from March to August 1986, spanning 25 episodes. The story follows Hanazono Yumi, a 10-year-old girl who loves flowers and drawing, dreaming of becoming a manga artist. After she takes care of flowers, the flower fairies Kakimaru and Keshimaru give her a magic wand that brings her drawings to life, though with a time limit. Unlike the previous three series, Yumi does not transform into an adult, offering a different take on the magical girl formula with its blend of fantasy, comedy, and pathos.
Box Details
The 40th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX features newly drawn illustration by character designer Yoshiyuki Kishi for the outer box and inner jacket. It also includes a special booklet, newly recorded audio commentary, and a bonus disc containing the non-credit opening and ending, the 1987 OVA Majo-kko Club Yonin-gumi A-kukan kara no Alien X, and the music clip Chapter True Love by Takako Ota.
Audio Commentary
The audio commentary will be included for three episodes. Episodes 1 and 14 feature Yū Mizushima (as Kyōhei Misawa), Mīna Tominaga (as Kakimaru), and Yuriko Fuchizaki (as Keshimaru). The final episode, episode 25, features Yū Mizushima, producer Tōru Horikoshi, and Michiyuki Honma from Studio Pierrot.
