Who is your favorite pun-loving character? Survey closes August 21st [Dajare no Hi]
Anime!Anime! is conducting a reader survey titled ‘Who is your favorite pun-loving character?’. The deadline is August 21st.
Celebrate Pun Day!
Get ready for some groan-worthy humor, because September 1st officially marks “Dajare no Hi”, or Pun Day, in Japan! This special day was established by the General Incorporated Association Japan Dajare Promotion Association. The date itself is a playful pun, with “Ku (9)” and “I (1)” cleverly referencing the inherent characteristics of puns, such as their “creative and impactful” nature, their “drawing power,” and even their ability to provide “salvation” or “relief.”
Puns in the World of Anime
Puns and wordplay are a common sight in the vibrant world of anime, with many beloved characters known for their love of dajare. The way these characters are portrayed varies widely: some might deliver a classic, perhaps a bit cheesy, pun that leaves everyone around them in stunned silence, while others skillfully use them to lighten the mood in a serious scene. And of course, there are those moments when a truly ridiculous pun can simply make you burst out laughing!
Tell Us Your Favorite Pun-Loving Characters!
To celebrate this occasion, Anime!Anime! is conducting a special reader survey titled “Who is your favorite pun-loving character?”. We invite you to tell us which character comes to mind, along with the title of the work they appear in, in a free-form answer format.
*Please note: Responses should be for characters appearing in 2D content, including anime (TV series, movies, streaming, OVAs, etc.), games, CD series, manga, and more.
*Only one response per person, please.
Basic information such as gender and age are optional fields, and you can choose not to answer them. Everyone is welcome to participate!
The deadline for submissions is August 21st. The survey results will be announced as soon as they are compiled. Stay tuned!
*This survey is part of a consciousness survey regarding readers’ “current interest and attention to anime works and characters.” The results are not intended to determine superiority or inferiority among any characters or works. We hope this article can serve as an opportunity for readers to discover new works and characters, or to deepen their understanding and interest.
