Initial D AE86 Real Car and 1/18 Scale Model Meet in Utsunomiya

An Initial D limited-time pop-up shop is being held on the first floor of the FKD Interpark store in Utsunomiya, Tochigi. The shop displays and sells AUTOart’s 1/18-scale Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86), and visitors can compare the model with a real AE86 on display.

Initial D’s 30th Anniversary Model

Initial D is a manga by Shigeno Shuichi about street racers. It ran in Weekly Young Magazine from 1995 issue 30 to 2013 issue 35, and its cumulative circulation has surpassed 56 million copies. The series, known for public-road battles on mountain passes and detailed depictions of real car models, has had a major impact on car culture. It has also been translated and aired as anime in Asia and Europe, gaining international popularity. In 2025, the manga marked the 30th anniversary of its serialization.

The 1/18-scale Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86) on display and sale was produced to commemorate that 30th anniversary. The model is based on the Project D specification seen in the latter half of the manga, bringing the fully tuned final form of the AE86 to 1/18 scale.

The model reproduces distinctive details, including sharp body lines based on 3D scanning of a real car, a carbon bonnet, lowered ride height, and 8-spoke wide wheels.

It also features opening and closing mechanisms for the retractable headlights, doors, and bonnet. The engine room and interior are precisely built, allowing visitors to examine details from a range of angles. A special package that includes a metal plate is also available.

A Chance to Compare Model and Real Car

At the venue, visitors can see the modeling, textures, and 1/18-scale presence that are difficult to convey through photos alone. Because a real AE86 is also on display, fans can compare the carefully recreated model with the actual car and enjoy the AE86’s design and the world of Initial D. The shop also offers official Initial D licensed goods, apparel, car accessories, and collectible items.

The limited-time Initial D pop-up shop runs through November 1 on the first floor of the FKD Interpark store in Utsunomiya, Tochigi. The 1/18-scale Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86) is also available through online sales at CAMSHOP.JP.
