Get ready for some supernatural thrills! The TV anime adaptation of Kayachan wa Kowakunai is officially set to hit screens in January 2026, airing across the TV Tokyo Network, AT-X, and WOWOW. Alongside this exciting broadcast announcement, a brand new key visual and a promotional commercial have been unveiled, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the world of Kaya-chan. But that’s not all – the cast is growing even stronger with the addition of Kaji Yuuki, Ochiai Fukushi, Tadokoro Azusa, and Izawa Shiori, who have also shared their eagerly awaited comments.

About the Series
Kayachan wa Kowakunai is a thrilling “horror-action” series centered around the most terrifying (and adorable!) kindergarten child, based on the manga by Yuritaroo, currently serialized on Shinchosha’s web manga platform, “Kurage Bunch.” The TV anime production is being handled by East Fish Studio, with Ikebata Hiroshi directing the spine-chilling yet heartwarming tale. Previously, it was announced that Tachibana Ansa would voice Kaya-chan, while Uchida Maaya would take on the role of Chie-sensei.
Plot Summary
Kaya-chan, a student at Hanamugi Kindergarten, possesses incredibly strong spiritual abilities. While she secretly thrashes the “obake” (ghosts) that creep up on her friends and family, her actions are often misunderstood, leading her to be labeled a “problem child.” However, her kindergarten life begins to change when her homeroom teacher, Chie-sensei, discovers her secret. With new eerie and malevolent apparitions appearing one after another, Kaya-chan’s powerful punches are ready to strike again!
Additional Cast and Key Visual Insights
With the broadcast period now set, we’re thrilled to reveal even more talented voice actors joining the cast: Kaji Yuuki, Ochiai Fukushi, Tadokoro Azusa, and Izawa Shiori! Kaji Yuuki will be lending his voice to Nam, a mysterious young man whose true identity remains unknown. Ochiai Fukushi steps into the shoes of Mobuo, an enigmatic older man who seems to constantly follow Kaya-chan. Furthermore, Tadokoro Azusa will portray Akira-sensei, the homeroom teacher for the middle-year class at Hanamugi Kindergarten, while Izawa Shiori takes on the role of Chihiro-sensei, a versatile teacher who assists various classes, primarily the middle-year students. Each of these new cast members has shared their thoughts on joining the project, which you can read below!
The newly released key visual offers a striking contrast, depicting the ordinary daily life at Hanamugi Kindergarten on the left, while dramatically showcasing the world of bizarre apparitions that only Kaya-chan can perceive on the right. Keep an eye out for the new characters Nam and Mobuo, who are prominently featured in this visual alongside the previously announced cast!

Voice Actor Comments
Kaji Yuuki
Q.1 How did you feel when your appearance was decided, and what is your enthusiasm?
I’m really not good with anything related to “ghosts” or “horror.” When I received the audition offer, I saw the title and thought, “Oh, if even little Kaya-chan isn’t scared, then I should be fine!” So, I accepted the role… but it actually turned out to be quite scary (laughs). However, it’s even more interesting than it is scary. I suppose you could call it a “human drama revealed through ghosts.” More than anything, I’m honored to have been entrusted with the voice of Nam-san. It’s a challenging role, yet incredibly rewarding to perform.
Q.2 Do you like or dislike “scary things”?
I dislike them! I feel like just talking about them might summon something, so let’s stop here!
Q.3 Have you had any “scary experiences”?
In this work, Chie-sensei can be considered a kind of protagonist. Despite this, her name in the lip-sync animation (VTR) used during recording frequently appeared as “Che” instead of “Chie,” almost sparking a revolution! But what was truly scary was that no one else noticed this until I, a mid-production addition, pointed it out… not even Uchida Maaya-chan, who plays Chie-sensei and should have seen the mark more than anyone, given how many lines she has. So scary!!!
Q.4 A message to everyone who will watch the anime:
To those of you who love scary works: You did it! A horror anime that will make you laugh and cry is here! Please enjoy it to the fullest!
To those of you who are not good with scary works: It’s okay! Even I, who voiced a character, recorded for it! It’s truly entertaining! So, my fellow comrades, please gather your courage and give it a watch! I promise you won’t regret it! I believe this is a work that can be enjoyed casually yet deeply. Please wait a little longer until the broadcast begins!!
Ochiai Fukushi
Q.1 How did you feel when your appearance was decided, and what is your enthusiasm?
When I was cast, I was filled with surprise, thinking, “Could it really be me!?” I’m incredibly happy to be able to breathe life into the world of this work as the character Mobuo!
Q.2 Do you like or dislike “scary things”?
I absolutely love horror movies and watch them often! However, I’m a little hesitant about real-life scary stories. That’s because I believe in ghosts and spirits. You can’t prove they “exist,” but you also can’t prove they “don’t exist,” hehe, so I can’t help but believe!
Q.3 Have you had any “scary experiences”?
I’ve had a few, but in the end, I don’t know if they were actually ghosts or not. Ah yes, was it six summers ago…? (Text omitted hereafter)
Q.4 A message to everyone who will watch the anime:
I portrayed Mobuo believing him to be a dark hero. I would be thrilled if even a little of Mobuo’s burdens, his affection, and his coolness could reach all of you! Let’s watch over Kaya-sama’s growth together!! Thank you very much!
Tadokoro Azusa
Q.1 How did you feel when your appearance was decided, and what is your enthusiasm?
I was truly overjoyed to be entrusted with this role. Akira-sensei can’t see ghosts, but her steady and reliable presence provides immense comfort to the children. Reading the work, I was once again reminded of how cool teachers are for protecting children, and the heavy responsibility and difficulty that comes with it. I put my heart into playing Akira-sensei, who, while strict when scolding, always exudes deep affection.
Q.2 Do you like or dislike “scary things”?
I dislike them, but I can’t help but want to listen to them. The anecdote a cast member shared with me at Kaya-chan’s wrap-up party was the scariest ghost story I’ve ever heard in my life. It was a fun set where we often got excited talking about scary stories with everyone in the cast!
Q.3 Have you had any “scary experiences”?
When I was in elementary school, something happened at school that made me wonder, “Was that a ghost?” But it might have just been my imagination!
Q.4 A message to everyone who will watch the anime:
Even as a shiver runs down your spine from the fear, you won’t be able to resist turning the page! This story has such a powerful pull. And I’m captivated by the brave and charming figures of the characters as they confront fear and mysteries. Please look forward to seeing how this tension, impact, and the cuteness of Kaya-chan and her friends will be expressed in the anime!
Izawa Shiori
Q.1 How did you feel when your appearance was decided, and what is your enthusiasm?
I love horror works! And I especially love strong protagonists! So, for me, *Kaya-chan* is an incredibly appealing work, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to join the team in this way. It was also a lot of fun playing a cheerful and straightforward teacher like Chihiro-sensei!
Q.2 Do you like or dislike “scary things”?
I adore ghost stories, urban legends, and yookai! However, I don’t like having scary experiences myself, so I’m not good with courage tests (kimodameshi) or haunted houses. I prefer to watch or listen to stories of other people’s scary experiences from a safe distance! (laughs)
Q.3 Have you had any “scary experiences”?
I don’t have psychic abilities, so I haven’t seen anything. Though, whenever I get my palm read, they always tell me, “You must have psychic powers, right?”
Q.4 A message to everyone who will watch the anime:
Even if you’re not a fan of horror, it’s alright! Kaya-chan will solve everything for you!! Please, watch until the very end with peace of mind. And if any of you recall your own mysterious experiences, please let us know (laughs)!
