About the Series
“Taiyou yori mo Mabushii Hoshi” is the latest masterpiece from the acclaimed manga artist Kawahara Kazune, whose previous works like “Ore Monogatari!!” (with art by Aruko), “Koukou Debut,” and “Sensei!” have all successfully received various media adaptations. Currently serialized in Shueisha’s “Bessatsu Margaret” magazine, the manga has already sold over 3.2 million copies in total as of September 2025, a testament to its widespread popularity.
Story Synopsis
The story follows Iwata Sae, a girl who is a bit sturdier than average. Back in elementary school, she experienced love at first sight, captivated by the gentle smile of a rather delicate boy, Kamijou Kouki. However, the slender and small Kamijou grew into a refreshing ikemen (handsome guy) by middle school, becoming a seemingly distant and unattainable presence. Yet, during their final middle school sports festival, fate brings them together, reigniting Sae’s long-held first love, which she had kept hidden deep within her heart, setting it on a new and exciting path.

Same high school, same class for Sae and Kamijou. Sounds like fate, doesn’t it? Early in their high school life, Sae and Kamijou find themselves in the same group for a trash-picking activity. However, unbeknownst to Sae, a conflict erupts between Kamijou and their classmate, Izawa Yuushin! What could be the cause of this sudden quarrel?
As Sae tries to intervene and help Izawa, Kamijou instinctively calls out her name, “Sae!”
This unexpected call brings a flood of faint childhood memories rushing back to Sae. Meanwhile, it seems Onodera Hisui is also starting to take an interest in Kamijou… Will this budding affection create a new love triangle?
