About `Ranma 1/2`
`Ranma 1/2` is a beloved martial arts romantic comedy based on the massively popular manga by Takahashi Rumiko, serialized in “`Shuukan Shounen Sunday`” from 1987 to 1996. Takahashi Rumiko is a legendary figure in manga, known for iconic works such as `Urusei Yatsura`, `Maison Ikkoku`, `InuYasha`, `Kyoukai no RINNE`, and `MAO`.
This anime adaptation is a “complete new animation” brought to life by Studio MAPPA, under the direction of Uda Kounosuke. The first season aired from October to December 2024, captivating audiences with its fresh take on a classic. A major reason for the excitement, even before its broadcast and continuing to this day, is the return of the original main cast. `Yamaguchi Kappei` reprises his role as `Saotome Ranma`, `Hayashibara Megumi` as `Ranma` (female), and `Hidaka Noriko` as `Tendou Akane`, ensuring a familiar and cherished experience for long-time fans.
The story plunges into hilarious chaos when `Saotome Genma` and his son `Ranma` arrive at the `Tendou` household after training in China. However, instead of the expected duo, a giant panda and a cute girl appear! It turns out that `Ranma`, through his training in China, developed a peculiar body-changing condition: dousing him with cold water turns him into a girl, while hot water reverts him to a boy. With the Phoenix Pill at stake, `Ranma` now faces a new challenge: the “`Kakutou Suikawari Kyousou`” (Martial Arts Watermelon Splitting Race)! Initially, `Ranma` appears to have the upper hand… but will it last?
