The latest theatrical film from Disney & Pixar, Hoshi Tsunagi no Erio (which can be translated as “Elio Connecting the Stars” and is also known simply as “Elio”), is set to premiere on August 1, 2025, in Japan. The Japanese voice cast for the film has now been announced! The protagonist, Elio, a lonely boy who passionately dreams of outer space, will be voiced by Kawahara Eito. The shy and kind-hearted lonely alien boy, Gloadon, will be voiced by Satoo Sora. Alongside this exciting news, a delightful video featuring the two young actors during their voice recording session has also been released.
About Hoshi Tsunagi no Erio
Hoshi Tsunagi no Erio is a moving fantasy adventure and the newest theatrical release from Disney & Pixar, depicting the grand adventure of a lonely boy named Elio. Elio is a solitary boy who is earnest about his passions and dreams of the day he can travel to stars light-years away. He constantly yearns for the vastness of space but feels misunderstood by everyone around him, leaving him with a sense of loneliness.
Believing that his “true place” must be somewhere among the shining stars in this wide universe, Elio gazes up at the night sky almost every evening. Then, one day, his earnest wish is answered, and he is invited to the dreamlike world of the stars, the “Communiverse,” where representatives from various planets gather.
Japanese Voice Cast Revealed
This time, the Japanese voice cast for this film has been announced. Voicing Elio is the child actor Kawahara Eito, who has appeared in numerous hit dramas such as Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu, the continuous television novel Toto Neechan, Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon, and Mystery to Iu Nakare. He gained particular popularity for his role as Satoo Kotaro in the drama Kotaro wa Hitori Kurashi.
Kawahara-kun expressed his joy upon being chosen for the role of Elio, saying with a smile, “Like Elio, I love space. Elio is kind, brave, and a very good boy, so I was really happy to be chosen for the role of Elio. My family loves Disney and Pixar films just like I do, so they were very happy too!” Regarding the voice recording session, he commented, “The visuals are beautiful, and the characters’ expressions are rich, which made it easy to think about what emotions to put into each scene. The other characters are also very lively, so the recording was a lot of fun!”
And, about meeting Satoo Sora, who voices Gloadon, the lonely alien boy Elio meets and bonds with in the “star world” light-years away, for the first time, he stated, “When I was doing the voice recording, I was looking forward to finding out what kind of boy Gloadon would be. Meeting Sora-kun in person, hearing his voice, and talking with him, I felt he was perfect for the role of Gloadon,” revealing that they quickly became friends, much like Elio and Gloadon.
Gloadon, who becomes Elio’s close friend in the Communiverse, is a kind-hearted lonely alien boy. He is troubled by his “timidness,” which is different from his strong father and those around him. Before meeting Elio, he had never ventured outside his own world, making everything he sees fresh and new, and his innocent joy is quite endearing. This role is played by the popular child actor Satoo Sora, who has appeared in dramas such as Yuria Sensei no Akai Ito and PICU Shooni Shuuchuu Chiryooshitsu. He garnered significant attention for his brilliant portrayal of the character “Lion” in the hit drama Lion no Kakurega, starring Yanagira Yuuya.
Satoo-kun, who has just started elementary school, shared his feelings upon being cast as Gloadon, saying, “I was so happy! Mama loves Disney, so it was Mama’s dream come true. Papa and Niini (his older brother, Satoo Haruto) were also happy.” He confessed that his entire family, who loves Disney, was overjoyed. Regarding the voice recording session, he noted, “It was fun. Adjusting my voice was a bit difficult,” hinting at some challenges. Expectations are high for the performances of “Elio” and “Gloadon” by these two innocent and charming boys who passed US auditions, proving their acting talent.
