Box Office Smash! “Hipumubi” Exceeds 1.5 Billion Yen and Releases Emotionally Charged New Trailer
Great news for fans! The movie *Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-*, affectionately known as “Hipumubi”, has officially surpassed 1.5 billion yen in box office revenue. This marks a significant achievement as Japan’s first “Interactive Movie”. To celebrate this success, a brand new trailer has been released, compiling iconic scenes and memorable lines from the film.
*Hypnosis Mic* is a music-based character rap project that began in September 2017. It features a total of 18 unique main characters divided into six teams: Ikebukuro Division, Yokohama Division, Shibuya Division, Shinjuku Division, Osaka Division, and Nagoya Division. The series depicts their intense rap battles, fought for the pride and prestige of their divisions.
The first-ever film adaptation, *Hipumubi*, offers a truly unique cinematic experience. The outcome of the heated rap battles shown on screen is determined by votes cast by the audience using a smartphone app. Voting takes place a total of five times during the screening, leading to an impressive 48 possible story patterns and seven different endings. This groundbreaking participatory voting system makes it Japan’s very first “Interactive Movie” shown in theaters.
Released on February 21, 2025, in 85 theaters, *Hipumubi* started strong, holding its own against major productions released in over 300 theaters. Even now, in its 13th week of release, its unstoppable momentum continues to garner attention, with the film even climbing back into the top 10 weekend box office rankings at number 8.
In commemoration of the film’s massive hit status and its overwhelming support as the “ultimate music movie”, a film music collection titled “MIC AS ONE” is set to be released on June 11th. This album covers all the featured songs from the movie, and to celebrate its upcoming release, a brand new trailer compiling iconic scenes and memorable lines from the 21 characters who appear in the film has been unveiled.
This emotionally resonant trailer is packed with the feelings of each character as they face the final Division Rap Battle. It’s absolutely a must-watch and a must-listen.
The “MIC AS ONE” music collection is a 2-disc CD album featuring 25 tracks, including the title track of the same name that features in the new trailer. The first press limited edition comes in special packaging. Furthermore, exclusive store limited editions will be released through the official Hypnosis Mic fan club “HYPSTER” and the EVIL LINE RECORDS official EC site “ELRstore”.
