Happy Gomi Zero Day! Who are the Clean-Loving Characters in Anime?

May 30th is known as “Gomi Zero no Hi”. This date gets its name from a clever Japanese wordplay, or goroawase, where “Go” (5) comes from May, “Mi” (3) from 3, and “Zero” (0) from 0, sounding out “Gomi Zero” which means “Zero Trash”. The concept gained traction back in the 1970s sparked by a citizen’s movement and has since grown into a day where both public and private sectors come together for various clean-up events.

It’s no secret that the world of anime is also full of characters who are absolute neat freaks, never letting a speck of dirt go unnoticed. These characters are often depicted as having impeccable grooming and perfectly tidy clothes. Some might unconsciously start cleaning up a messy room the moment they see it, while others can’t rest until everything is meticulously organized down to the smallest detail. There are even characters whose knowledge of cleaning rivals that of a professional!

Therefore, Anime! Anime! is once again conducting a reader survey titled “Who are the characters who like cleanliness?”, following up on last year. We invite you to share your thoughts in a free-response format. Please tell us which character you think fits the bill and the title of the series they appear in.

Characters from a wide range of 2D content are eligible, including anime series (TV broadcasts, movies, streaming, OVAs, etc.), games, CD series, and manga.
