Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime to Stream in 2028, New Staff and Cast Revealed

The anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (冥人奇譚, Kuroudo Kitan) is scheduled to stream in 2028, Crunchyroll announced during its panel at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2026 local time. The panel also revealed additional staff and cast members, and attendees were given a limited first look at the first anime footage currently in production.

Based on the online multiplayer mode Ghost of Tsushima: Legends/冥人奇譚 from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions’ hit action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima, the anime reimagines the mode as an animated work.

Set in the Bun’ei era of the late 13th century, the story begins when a vast Mongol Empire (Yuan) army led by Khotun Khan invades Tsushima. The island’s samurai clans fight bravely, but Tsushima is quickly overrun. Amid despair, those who have returned from the underworld—the Kuroudo—appear and launch a fierce assault to save the island. Now, a mysterious narrator reveals the tale of the Kuroudo and Tsushima.

Under director Mizuno Takanobu, series composition is by Urobuchi Gen (Nitroplus), with scripts by Urobuchi Gen (Nitroplus) and Maeshima Ken (Nitroplus). Character design is by Okazaki Nohito, who has achieved the feat of winning an Emmy Award. The staff teams with Kamikaze Douga, known for diverse visual expression, to rebuild Ghost of Tsushima: Legends as an animated work. The new story is drawing attention from around the world.

The music is composed by Iuchi Keiji, who has worked on the Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka series, Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, and the Star Wars: Visions The Duel series. Building on the weighty worldview of the work, he delivers grand music.

Sound director is Iwanami Miwa, whose credits include JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Stone Ocean, Ninja Batman tai Yakuza League, and Darwin Jihen. Sound effects are handled by Koyama Yasumasa, who worked on Girls & Panzer: Motto Love Love Sakusen desu! and Gekijouban Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale. Expectations are high for how the work will be expressed through sound.

The calligraphy for the 冥人奇譚 portion of the logo was created by calligrapher Suzuki Gyoushou. Suzuki has handled title lettering for the TV drama Barakamon, as well as numerous calligraphy contributions for TV commercials and NHK taiga dramas. For this work, Suzuki wrote a one-of-a-kind title that conveys overwhelming power and an inescapable solemnity, as if symbolizing the Kuroudo who possess unfathomable strength.

Additional cast members announced are Sako Mayumi and Fukumatsu Shinsa. Further updates are sure to be worth watching.

The anime Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is produced by HAYATE with cooperation from PlayStation Productions and is currently in production for its 2028 release. More news is expected in the future.
