A Look Back at the Legacy of Yoroiden Samurai Troopers
The original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers television anime first aired from April 1988 to March 1989, running for a total of 39 episodes. Produced by Sunrise, it quickly captured the hearts of viewers.
Following the success of the TV series, three original video animation (OVA) sequels were produced, further expanding the story. The final OVA series, consisting of 5 episodes, was released in 1991.
While perhaps best known to some fans internationally under the name Ronin Warriors (originally licensed by Graz Entertainment), the series was later licensed by Discotek Media in 2014. Currently, the original anime is available for streaming on several platforms including Crunchyroll, RetroCrush, Amazon Prime Video, and Tubi, offering both subtitle and English dub options.
Beyond the anime, a manga adaptation by Ryuuichi Hoshino was serialized for 10 chapters in Comic Bonbon magazine between 1988 and 1989, providing an additional take on the armored warriors’ saga.
