About Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
Based on the popular light novel series by Hinata Natsu published under Hero Bunko, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (which can be translated as “The Apothecary Diaries”) transports us to the opulent yet mysterious world of the imperial court. Here, we follow MaoMao, a clever young woman thrust into the role of a “poison taster”. With her sharp wit and extensive knowledge of herbs and poisons, she finds herself solving complex mysteries, often at the “request” (or perhaps gentle coercion) of the handsome eunuch Jinshi. The series is so beloved it also boasts two ongoing manga adaptations in Monthly Big Gangan and Monthly Sunday GX.
The critically acclaimed TV anime adaptation first aired its 24-episode inaugural season in October 2023. Its captivating blend of historical drama and intricate mysteries quickly made waves, even earning a “Special Prize” at the TVer Award 2023. The excitement continues with the second season, which began airing on January 10, 2025, running for two consecutive cours.
