About *Kusuriya no Hitorigoto*
*Kusuriya no Hitorigoto* (which can be translated as “The Apothecary Diaries”) is based on the popular novel series by Hyuuga Natsu, published under the “Hero Bunko” label. It also has manga adaptations running in “Big Gangan” and “Sunday GX”. The series has surpassed a cumulative total of 38 million copies sold, captivating readers with its intriguing palace mysteries. Set in a fictional medieval Eastern land, the story follows Maomao, a young girl who serves as a “poison taster” in the imperial court. She finds herself entangled in various complex incidents and uses her sharp wit and extensive knowledge of herbs and poisons to solve them one after another.
The TV anime adaptation saw its first season air from October 2023, with the second season following in January 2025. The series has garnered significant attention, consistently ranking high on various streaming platforms. It continues to build momentum with recent events, including its first-ever exhibition, “TV Anime *Kusuriya no Hitorigoto* Exhibition,” which began on March 26th of this year, a collaboration event at Universal Studios Japan planned for this summer, and the highly anticipated announcement of a sequel to the TV anime.
The newly released merchandise is a music box that plays “Hyakka Ryouran,” the opening theme song for the second season of the anime.
