Get Ready for Laughs! Summer Anime “CITY THE ANIMATION” Reveals Synopsis and Preview Cuts for Episode 1
Get ready for a dose of delightful absurdity! From the upcoming summer anime season, we have the synopsis and exciting preview cuts for the very first episode, “＃1,” of `CITY THE ANIMATION`, set to begin airing on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
About `CITY THE ANIMATION`
The anime `CITY THE ANIMATION` is based on the manga `CITY` by Aranii Keiichi, serialized from 2016 to 2021 in “Morning” magazine. Aranii Keiichi is also well-known for his currently revived series `Nitijoo` (also known as `Nichijou`), which returned after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus. `CITY` is described as a “girls-run comedy,” depicting the lives of the somewhat amusing residents living in an ordinary “CITY.” The story unfolds through a colorful cast of characters, including the broke college student Nanagumo Midori, her kohai Niikura who aspires to be a photographer, and the slightly mysterious girl Izumi Wako.
The animation production is handled by the renowned Kyooto Animation, with Ishidate Taichi directing. Tokuyama Tamami is in charge of Character Design and serves as Chief Animation Director, while Piraniansu is composing the music. The main cast features Komatsu Mikako as Nanagumo Midori, Toyosaki Aki as Niikura, and Ishikawa Yui as Izumi Wako, alongside many other talented voice actors.
Episode 1 “＃1” Synopsis
In the city where something happens everywhere, every day—CITY—the story begins with Tsurubisi, who accidentally sends a plate of crispy noodles diving into a customer’s bag, and Nanagumo, who witnesses the whole thing. It’s a desperate, major pinch! Meanwhile, Matsuri and Eri are enjoying their after-school life to the fullest.
And so, another grand adventure is about to begin today.
Elsewhere, the editor Todoroki and Oni Kamaboko are struggling to come up with ideas for “Rakutan-kun.” Their thoughts are stopped, but the tears just won’t stop flowing. When Nanagumo hears Niikura’s dream, she starts thinking about what she really wants to do… Something is starting to bud in CITY.
The first episode of the summer anime `CITY THE ANIMATION`, “＃1,” is scheduled to air starting Sunday, July 6, 2025, on ABC Terebi, TOKYO MX, Terebi Aiti, BS11, AT-X, and other channels.
