In the year 2199 AD, humanity was on the verge of extinction. Attacked by the mysterious planet Gamilas, which sought to invade Earth, the seas had evaporated and the surface was contaminated with radiation. Amidst this crisis, information about the radiation removal device, Cosmo Cleaner D, was brought from the planet Iscandar. Based on the blueprint for the Wave Motion Engine sent along with the message, humanity rebuilt the World War II battleship “Yamato” as a space battleship. To receive Cosmo Cleaner D, they set off for Iscandar. With only one year until humanity’s demise, will the Yamato be able to return safely to Earth from its 296,000 light-year round trip…?

Exhibition Details and Anno Hideaki’s Comment
The “Uchuu Senkan Yamato Zen Kiroku Ten” brings together over 2,000 valuable items, including planning documents from the time, character and mechanic setting drawings, original drawings, and background art. The Osaka venue will be held at “Namba Skyo 7F Convention Hall” from July 19th to August 3rd. On July 26th, there will also be a cheki (instant photo) session and handover event for T-shirt purchasers in the merchandise corner featuring Tsunko (appearing in Mori Yuki cosplay).
Anno Hideaki’s comment for the visitors of the Osaka venue has also been released (full text below).
Authentic “drawings” have power.
Looking at the “drawings” of “Uchuu Senkan Yamato,” the setting drawings, original drawings, etc., you will discover and be moved by how much detail was put into them, how much thought went into drawing them. You can feel the “feelings” and “passion” of the people who created them, which might even inspire you to get involved in creating works yourself.
It is also impressive that something of this scale was created half a century ago.
This exhibition showcases not only the wonder and excitement of “Uchuu Senkan Yamato,” which can be called the origin of Japanese “anime,” but also its 50-year history as much as possible, allowing you to look back on everything from a comprehensive perspective.
Please come and see it.
