The Ever-Evolving Journey of Cardcaptor Sakura

The enchanting story of Cardcaptor Sakura first graced the pages of the monthly shoujo manga magazine “Nakayoshi,” running from the June 1996 issue to the August 2000 issue. The series chronicles the adventures of Kinomoto Sakura, a cheerful elementary school student who embarks on a perilous journey as a “Cardcaptor” to retrieve the magical Clow Cards, which threaten to bring disaster to the world. The original manga was compiled into 12 volumes, with a re-edited 60th-anniversary edition of Nakayoshi comprising 9 volumes.

The anime adaptation captivated audiences on NHK from 1998 to 2000. The first two seasons covered the exciting Clow Card Arc, followed by the third season, which delved into the Sakura Card Arc. After a 16-year hiatus, a brand-new chapter, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Arc, began serialization in 2016 to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary. This new arc, spanning seven and a half years, concluded with 80 chapters across 16 volumes. Celebrating its 25th anime broadcast anniversary in 2023, the Clear Card Arc has already confirmed the production of a highly anticipated anime sequel, promising more magical adventures for fans!
