A month has already flown by since the 2025 Summer anime season began. This season, a vibrant cast of unique characters has been continuously introduced, bringing the anime worlds to life. From protagonists who drive the story, to side characters who sometimes make an even bigger impact than the main leads, and even guest characters who leave a strong impression despite appearing for just one episode – this diverse lineup truly adds depth to each series.
That’s why Anime!Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Which Character from the 2025 Summer Anime Season Did You Fall in Love With at First Sight?” We received responses from 977 people during the survey period, which ran from August 3rd to August 10th.
The gender ratio was approximately 40% male and 60% female, with a slightly higher representation of women. As for age demographics, 50% were under 19, and 20% were in their 20s, indicating a strong focus on younger audiences.

Heroines Who Shine in Their Own Unique Ways!

Taking the #1 spot is Waguri Kaoruko from Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, with an impressive 19% of the votes.
Waguri Kaoruko, the heroine of this series, is a high school student attending a prestigious girls’ academy. She garnered acclaim as a strong-willed heroine, with comments praising her for her “straightforward personality and how wonderfully she doesn’t judge people based on their appearance or rumors.” Another reader shared, “Even though she seems innocent, she’s the type who can firmly state her opinion when it matters. I really admire a girl like that!” On the other hand, her sweet tooth also won hearts, with many feeling “healed by her blissful expression while deliciously eating cake.” Many readers are also eagerly anticipating the romantic developments between her and the protagonist, Rintarou.

Coming in at #2 is Shizuka from Takopii no Genzai, securing about 6% of the votes.
Shizuka is the elementary school girl whom the Happy-seijin, Takopii, encounters. The story kicks off when she helps a hungry Takopii. Many readers were captivated by her unique presence, with comments like, “In the story, she’s described as having beautiful double eyelids, and her large eyes are truly striking,” and “Ueda Reina-san’s voice exudes an enchanting aura, making it impossible to look away as the story progresses.”
Notably, her classmate Marina also ranked #4. Readers described her as having “cute, slightly wavy long hair and a stylish hairband.” Combined with the unexpected twists in the plot, many commented that Marina became an unforgettable character.

Securing the #3 spot is Monica Everett from Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto, with approximately 5% of the votes.
Monica, the protagonist of this series, is a genius mage who can cast spells without incantation. Known as the “Silent Witch” due to her incredible power, she earned support for her efforts and growth story. Readers commented, ‘It’s fascinating how she’s so brilliant, chosen as one of the kingdom’s Seven Sages at such a young age, yet she’s incredibly shy. But in combat, her eyes change, and I was drawn to her elegant fighting style.’ Another shared, ‘I sympathized with her journey of gaining companions and growing through her undercover mission at a prestigious academy.’

For Bad Girl‘s Yuuya Yuu: “She tries to act rebellious to get the attention of the disciplinary committee chairperson, Atori, but her inherently good nature always shines through, making her clumsy attempts endearing. Combined with her visual design, she has a small-animal-like cuteness.”
For Food Court de, Mata Ashita.‘s Yamamoto: “Summer anime often have a lot of gyaru-like characters, but she’s my top pick among them. She’s a kind and considerate girl, and I also love how she thinks Wada-kun, who freely speaks his mind, is an ‘interesting guy.'”
For SAKAMOTO DAYS‘ Oosafuru: “Combined with Hayami Saori-san’s gentle voice, her naturally easygoing nature really shines through. Her lace decorations and dress are adorable, but the gap between that and her incredible strength in battle is fantastic.”
For Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2‘s Kitagawa Marin: “In Season 2, she showed off her cross-dressing at the cultural festival, and it suited her perfectly! From her dignified appearance as a model to her love-struck maiden expressions when she’s with Gojou-kun, I adore every side of Marin-chan.” There were also votes for the title of the second season itself.
In the female character category, protagonists and heroines dominated the top ranks. It seems active characters who forge their own paths are particularly popular.
