North American Premieres and Special Events
In the United States, the fervor for *Kimetsu no Yaiba* was palpable. Following a grand promotional campaign at San Diego Comic-Con, a special “Kimetsu no Yaiba Night” was held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on August 15, timed perfectly with the launch of advance ticket sales. The excitement continued on September 9 with a similar fan engagement event at Globe Life Field, the home stadium of the Texas Rangers, just before the film’s wide release across America.
Further solidifying its global presence, a star-studded premiere event took place on September 9 at Hollywood’s legendary TCL Chinese Theatre. This dazzling occasion brought together esteemed Japanese voice actor Hanae Natsuki, who made the journey from Japan, alongside members of the English dub cast, including actor Channing Tatum, who lends his voice to the character Keizou.

Hanae-san’s dedication to connecting with fans worldwide also led him to participate in additional premiere events in vibrant cities like Paris and Mexico City, amplifying the global reach and impact of *Kimetsu no Yaiba*.
Record-Breaking Success Across Asia and Europe
Meanwhile, in India, a special fan screening was organized in Mumbai on September 7, graced by Crunchyroll brand ambassadors Rashmika Mandanna and Tiger Shroff. Southeast Asia had the privilege of experiencing the film earlier, with its release in mid-August, highlighted by the presence of Sakurai Takahiro, the voice of Tomioka Giyuu, at a premiere event in Singapore on August 11.
The box office results speak volumes about the film’s monumental success. From September 12 to 14, Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Dai Isshou Akaza Sairai seized the global number one spot. In North America (U.S. and Canada), it soared to number one, pulling in a staggering $70 million. This achievement marks the largest opening for a Japanese anime film in North American history, a truly groundbreaking feat.
India witnessed an unprecedented release, with the film showing on over 750 screens—the widest release ever for a Japanese anime film in the country. Furthermore, it became the first Japanese anime film in India to be presented in five languages: Japanese (with English subtitles), English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, broadening its appeal immensely. In Latin America, the movie set new records, achieving the highest-ever opening for a Japanese anime film in multiple markets. European audiences also showed immense support, contributing $17.4 million to the box office, with further expansions into France, Germany, and other regions slated for the coming weeks.
Crunchyroll’s Vision: Beyond the Box Office
Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, offered a thoughtful perspective on the film’s success, emphasizing that while box office numbers are important, Crunchyroll measures a film’s impact through a broader lens. “Box office performance is certainly crucial,” Purini stated, “but at Crunchyroll, we evaluate a film’s success from various angles. For instance, did the movie expand its fandom? Did people discuss it passionately? Did they invite family and friends to experience it in theaters? Was there a sense of community gathering within the cinema? And critically, does the momentum of the film extend to streaming, merchandise, and future events? These elements ensure a lasting impact for the work. Our role, and indeed our strength at Crunchyroll, is to transform exceptional anime into a shared cultural experience for audiences across the globe.”
With such resounding success and a dedicated vision for its global reach, the continued expansion and impact of Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Dai Isshou Akaza Sairai are undoubtedly something to behold.
