About Koukaku Kidoutai

For those unfamiliar, *Koukaku Kidoutai* is a groundbreaking sci-fi manga series that began serialization in Kodansha’s “Young Magazine Kaizokuban” in 1989, penned by the visionary mangaka Shirow Masamune. The story plunges readers into a world where advanced cybernetics are commonplace. It follows the adventures of Public Security Section 9, affectionately known as “Koukaku Kidoutai,” an elite and aggressive unit led by the “Major,” Kusanagi Motoko. Kusanagi Motoko is a full-body cyborg with exceptional abilities in cyber warfare and combat. Together, her team confronts increasingly sophisticated and complex cybercrimes, offering a thrilling narrative that has captivated fans for decades.

Understanding the KODANSHA｜HERALBONY Project

The “KODANSHA｜HERALBONY Project” is a remarkable initiative launched in May 2024, stemming from a partnership between Kodansha and HERALBONY. Its core mission is to share the inspiring stories of artists living with disabilities with the world, fostering a culture of diverse and inclusive values. As part of this project, Kodansha’s initial “K” symbol has been beautifully designed in ten different colors, each adorned with original artwork created by artists living with disabilities. These unique art pieces are then integrated into various Kodansha activities, including events, fairs, social media campaigns, and novelty items, spreading their message far and wide.

Tachikoma Reimagined by HERALBONY Artists

For this exciting collaboration, the beloved Tachikoma — a charming and highly intelligent multi-legged tank from the *Koukaku Kidoutai* anime series — has been given a stunning makeover. The iconic design of the Tachikoma from *Koukaku Kidoutai SAC_2045* is now wrapped in vibrant original art created by four talented HERALBONY contracted artists.

Where to See the Collaborative Tachikoma

These artistically redesigned *Koukaku Kidoutai SAC_2045* Tachikoma units will be showcased starting October 4th (local time) at the “KODANSHA HOUSE” in SoHo, New York. “KODANSHA HOUSE” is a special pop-up facility where visitors can immerse themselves in and experience popular Kodansha manga works.
