The Enduring Legacy of Evangelion
The Evangelion series first captivated audiences with the broadcast of the TV anime `Shin Seiki Evangelion` in 1995, sparking a widespread social phenomenon across Japan. Building on this immense success, the franchise was reborn in 2007 with the `Evangelion Shin Gekijouban` series, masterfully planned, written, and generally directed by Anno Hideaki. This new cinematic journey saw three massively successful films released: `:Jo`, `:Ha`, and `:Kyuu`.
The saga reached its poignant conclusion with `Shin Evangelion Gekijouban`, the fourth and final installment of the new theatrical film series, which premiered on March 8, 2021. This ultimate chapter garnered a staggering final box office revenue of 10.28 billion yen and attracted an impressive 6.73 million viewers. The Evangelion series consistently draws in new fans and continues to enjoy immense support from a broad spectrum of audiences, cementing its place as a cultural touchstone.
