About SAKAMOTO DAYS
`SAKAMOTO DAYS` is a battle-action manga by Suzuki Yuuto, which began serialization in Shueisha’s “Weekly Shounen Jump” in November 2020. The story kicks off with protagonist Sakamoto Tarou, once a legendary hitman feared by all villains, abruptly retiring from his deadly profession after falling in love at first sight with Aoi, a woman working at a convenience store. After marrying and welcoming a daughter, Sakamoto, now sporting a more substantial physique, runs the “Sakamoto Shoten” (Sakamoto Store). However, villains relentlessly pursue him. The narrative unfolds as a thrilling action story, blending the “ordinary and the extraordinary” as Sakamoto fights to protect his beloved family and their peaceful daily life from an onslaught of enemies.
The manga has currently released 23 volumes, with its worldwide cumulative circulation, including digital editions, surpassing 15 million copies as of August 2025. Furthermore, the anime adaptation, which began airing in January 2025, quickly took the world by storm. Its global distribution on Netflix garnered 8.6 million views in its first week alone, and over 10.6 million views in Japan, marking it as a massive hit. The series also secured the 2nd spot in global rankings, 1st in five countries, and made it into the Top 10 in 67 countries, showcasing its explosive worldwide popularity.
Live-Action Film Production Details
In this live-action film, Meguro Ren plays the role of Sakamoto Tarou, the strongest hitman. Directing the film is Fukuda Yuuichi, a comedic genius renowned for his work on the `Gintama` series and `Kyou Kara Ore wa!! Gekijouban`. With production handled by CREDEUS, known for the `Kingdom` series and `Golden Kamuy`, this promises to be a super authentic action-entertainment masterpiece.
The film’s announcement in September, which revealed both the live-action adaptation and Meguro Ren as the star, generated significant buzz. Discussions quickly ignited around casting predictions and the intriguing fact that Meguro would portray Sakamoto in both his “plump form” and his “smart, agile form.” The news garnered widespread attention, frequently topping Yahoo! Japan’s headlines and trending across social media.
Takahashi Fumiya Takes on Asakura Shin
Now, it has been officially announced that Takahashi Fumiya will portray Asakura Shin, Sakamoto Tarou‘s loyal companion. The role challenges Takahashi to embody Shin as a hitman possessing exceptional combat prowess and an esper who can read others’ thoughts. This project marks Takahashi’s first collaboration with director Fukuda Yuuichi.
Takahashi, who takes on full-scale action for the first time, reflected on the filming process, stating, “I struggled with unfamiliar challenges, but through repeated practice, I focused on embodying even a small part of Shin’s coolness. During the filming period, with the support of director **Fukuda**, **Meguro-san**, and many others, I was able to create **Asakura Shin**.” He expressed his confidence in the demanding action sequences.
Speaking about his first co-star, Meguro Ren, Takahashi shared, “The first day I met him, I instantly felt, like Shin in the story, ‘This is the person whose back I should follow.’ **Meguro-san** is kind, considerate, cool, and skilled in action—he’s someone I deeply respect!” His heartfelt comments hint at the birth of a powerful new duo, echoing the profound bond between Sakamoto and Shin within the narrative.
Revealed Visual and Action Footage
The character visual for Shin, unveiled alongside this news, is striking, showing him with sharp focus even as he loses balance, shooting his target with a gun. Although this is Takahashi’s first foray into full-fledged gun action, the visual flawlessly captures the character’s exceptional “physical capabilities” as depicted in the original manga, creating a truly unique and captivating image.
The action footage, meanwhile, is an unmissable spectacle, showcasing **Takahashi**’s graceful movements as he performs many of the action scenes himself, thanks to his innate physical abilities. The breathtaking gunfights and intense battle sequences are sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. This display of razor-sharp action only heightens anticipation for the full scope of the film.
The live-action film `SAKAMOTO DAYS` is set to premiere during Golden Week in 2026. We eagerly await further updates and details as they are released.

Takahashi Fumiya (First time participating in a Fukuda Yuuichi-directed work)
Hello, I’m Takahashi Fumiya, and I will be playing Asakura Shin in the live-action film `SAKAMOTO DAYS`. When I received the offer for this project, I was filled with both surprise at the live-action adaptation and joy at the opportunity to play Asakura Shin.
I believe this film will be a work where everyone can thoroughly enjoy the action scenes, a major charm of the original manga, as well as the meticulously sprinkled comedic elements.
The character Asakura Shin, whom I portray, is a kind and considerate individual who cherishes his companions. He possesses the psychic ability to read people’s minds and, above all, deeply loves and respects Sakamoto-san.
From my perspective, the lead actor, Meguro-san, is also someone I deeply respect. The first day I met Meguro-san, I instinctively felt, just like Shin in the story, “This is the person whose back I should follow.” Meguro-san is kind, considerate, cool, and skilled in action—he’s someone I deeply respect!
Also, I personally took on full-scale action for the first time. I struggled with unfamiliar challenges, but through repeated practice, I focused on embodying even a small part of Shin’s coolness. During the filming period, with the support of director Fukuda, Meguro-san, and many others, I was able to create Asakura Shin.
I sincerely hope that many people will enjoy this film. Please look forward to its release!
