Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite ‘Denim’ character?” We are now releasing the results.

October 26th is celebrated as “Denim Day.” This date was established by the Kojima Jeans Street Promotion Council in Okayama Prefecture, based on a playful Japanese wordplay: “De” (10) and “nimu” (26).
Denim, a sturdy cotton fabric, is widely recognized as synonymous with jeans and has become an indispensable fashion item for anime and game characters alike. From students dashing through their youth in casual jeans to rugged heroes battling in denim jackets, or wild artists sporting distressed denim, the ways denim is depicted are incredibly diverse.
To celebrate this, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite ‘Denim’ character?” We received 190 responses during the survey period from October 11th to October 18th. The gender ratio was approximately 30 percent male and 70 percent female, showing a higher participation from women. As for age demographics, around 55 percent were 19 years old or younger, with both those in their 20s and 30s making up about 15 percent each.

Denim-Loving Characters Gather!
First Place
Taking the top spot is Best Jeanist from Boku no Hero Academia! With approximately 45 percent of the votes, Best Jeanist proudly holds onto the first position, maintaining their reign from last year.
Best Jeanist, a professional hero and U.A. High School alumnus, is known for their utterly unique fashion sense, which involves being clad head-to-toe in denim. Readers absolutely love their distinct style, with comments like, “From their name and dialogue to their costume, everything is denim-focused. I especially chuckled at the nonsensical phrase ‘Illegal Denim’!” This one-of-a-kind worldview has certainly captured the hearts of many fans.
Adding to their fame, one voter happily mentioned, “They even received a Special Contribution Award at the actual Best Jeanist Awards in 2024! Congratulations!” This real-world recognition further boosted their popularity. It’s fantastic to see a character from a currently airing series, FINAL SEASON, achieve such a prominent ranking!
Second Place
Coming in second is Otoki Morihito from Witch Watch! With roughly 21 percent of the votes, this character from a series that began airing in 2025 has impressively climbed to a high rank.
Otoki Morihito (Moi-chan) is a high school student possessing the power of an oni. He lives with his childhood friend, Nico, who is currently training to be a witch, serving as her familiar. Many readers highlighted episode 24, “Moi-chan’s Denim Way,” as particularly memorable.
Fans shared comments such as, “Moi-chan, or Morihito, is usually serious, but it’s hilarious how he can’t stop his otaku-like ramblings when it comes to vintage denim. His love for denim was incredibly strong in the anime!” and “His passion for denim is extraordinary. He draws his companions into his denim evangelism, and even gets a nosebleed from sheer joy over a rare denim gift – his deep affection for denim really shines through!” These comments express surprise and delight at the gap between his usual demeanor and his intense denim enthusiast personality. A second season for Witch Watch has already been decided. We wonder if we’ll see more of his denim love in the new episodes?
Third Place
Securing third place is Miyazawa Kenji from Bungou Stray Dogs. With about 4 percent of the votes, he dropped one spot from last year’s second place.
Miyazawa Kenji is a member of the Armed Detective Agency, a group of ability users. He is a cheerful and innocent young boy who came to the city from the countryside. He is frequently seen wearing blue overalls, leading to comments such as, “Rolling up his pant legs to his knees perfectly expresses his simple and pure personality,” and “It goes really well with his trademark straw hat.” His unpretentious and down-to-earth appearance seems to have captured the hearts of his fans.

For Arato Nagi from Ruri no Houseki, a fan commented, “She’s a graduate student majoring in mineralogy. Since she often mines in mountains and tunnels, her outfit – a dress shirt and jeans – prioritizes ease of movement.”
For Ash Lynx from BANANA FISH, a reader said, “His light attire of jeans and a T-shirt is perfect for the boss of a street gang based in New York. His simple yet wild appearance truly brings out Ash’s inherent coolness.”
Regarding Hijikata Toushirou (Toushii) from Gintama, a fan remarked, “His sleeveless denim vest when he transforms into his otaku persona, Toushii, was absolutely shocking! The contrast was immense, especially since he usually looks so sharp in the Shinsengumi uniform!”
And surprisingly, there was even a vote for a character named Denim from Kidou Senshi Gundam! The comment noted, “Although he gets defeated in the first episode, he surprisingly survives in GQuuuuuuX! He was depicted as a fairly capable Zeon pilot, assisting Char and dodging the Guncannon’s beam cannon. The opponent in the main story was just too strong…”
In this survey, Best Jeanist from Boku no Hero Academia clinched the top spot with a double score! The impressive feat of receiving the actual Best Jeanist Award in the real world seems to have significantly boosted fan votes. The next page reveals the full top 10, so be sure not to miss it!
