The monumental wine manga, Kami no Shizuku, is finally getting a TV anime adaptation, scheduled to air in 2026! Following his starring role in the 2009 live-action drama, Kamenashi Kazuya will once again take on the role of the protagonist, Kanzaki Shizuku, in the upcoming TV anime. To mark this exciting announcement, a stunning teaser visual and a captivating teaser PV featuring Kamenashi-san’s voice as Shizuku have been released.
The beloved manga Kami no Shizuku, with original story by Akii Tadashi and artwork by Okimoto Shuu, was serialized in ‘Morning’ from 2004 to 2014. This masterpiece sparked a global wine boom, captivating readers with its moving human drama centered around the elusive “Drops of God”—a legendary wine. Its accessible explanations made it perfect for wine novices, while its rich and accurate content earned high praise from wine producers and industry professionals worldwide. The series, including related works such as Kaitou Rouvan, Mariage: Kami no Shizuku Saishuu Shou, and Kami no Shizuku deuxième, has sold over 15 million copies globally, a testament to its enduring popularity.
Back in 2009, a live-action drama adaptation starring Kamenashi Kazuya aired on the Nittere network. More recently, in 2023, the international co-production Kami no Shizuku/Drops of God Season 1 was released as a live-action series, with Season 2 anticipated to stream exclusively in Japan on Hulu starting January 23, 2026. Amidst all this excitement, the decision for this brand-new anime adaptation marks Kami no Shizuku‘s very first foray into the animated world, adding another thrilling chapter to its media mix.
Kamenashi Kazuya, who is taking on the starring role, previously portrayed the protagonist, Kanzaki Shizuku, in the 2009 live-action drama. It’s truly remarkable that he will be reprising this very same role in the TV anime, a full 16 years later! This marks a unique milestone in Kamenashi-san’s career, as it’s his first time playing the same lead character across both live-action drama and an anime series. The anticipation is sky-high to see how he will bring this fated character to life with his voice acting in the animated format.
Kamenashi-san shared his thoughts on returning to the role of Kanzaki Shizuku and his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It’s been 16 years since I last played Shizuku in the TV drama, and now I get to face this role again. Thinking about the years that have passed since then, I truly feel a deep connection. Just like Shizuku, I will take one step at a time, learning in an unknown world—I want to see it through to the end, seeing myself in that journey.” Comments have also been received from the original story author Akii Tadashi, manga artist Okimoto Shuu, and director Itoso Kenji.
The teaser PV, featuring Kamenashi-san’s voice as Shizuku, was also released, generating even more buzz. Further exciting updates for the TV anime Kami no Shizuku are eagerly awaited.
Furthermore, the stellar cast joining Kamenashi-san has been revealed! Satou Takuya will lend his voice to Toomine Issei, the charismatic young wine critic and Shizuku’s formidable rival. Meanwhile, Uchida Maaya will play Shinohara Miyabi, the sommelier-in-training who embarks on a journey with Shizuku to uncover “The Drops of God” and the “Twelve Apostles”. Adding to the ensemble, Ginga Banjou will voice the globally renowned wine critic, Kanzaki Yutaka.
The TV anime Kami no Shizuku is scheduled to air in 2026 on TOKYO MX, Kansai TV, and BS Nittere.

Kamenashi Kazuya (Voice of Kanzaki Shizuku)
It’s been 16 years since I last played “Shizuku” in the TV drama, and now I get to face this role again.
Thinking about the years that have passed since then, I truly feel a deep connection.
This time, I’m experiencing many firsts on set, and I receive so much inspiration from the staff and my fellow cast members with each recording session.
Just like “Shizuku,” I will take one step at a time, learning in an unknown world—
I want to see it through to the end, seeing myself in that journey.
I’m sincerely happy to once again be a part of Kami no Shizuku, a work loved worldwide.
In this new journey, I hope to deepen my understanding and open myself up even more as time progresses.
Everyone, please look forward to it!
Akii Tadashi (Original Story)
Finally, the information is released! It was tough keeping it quiet (lol).
After all, manga truly takes flight when it becomes an anime and spreads throughout the world.
I’m also looking forward to Kamenashi Kazuya-san, who played the protagonist Shizuku in the 2009 Japanese TV drama, voicing the same character in the anime.
And starting January 23rd next year, Season 2 of the international drama Kami no Shizuku/Drops of God, an International Emmy Award winner co-produced by Japan, France, and the US, will begin streaming domestically.
There are still other big secret projects underway. Please look forward to them!
Okimoto Shuu (Manga Art)
The clueless Shizuku from 20 years ago, who knew nothing about wine, is returning as an anime.
Rebelling against his father, experiencing “Late Harvest,” hearing Queen’s hallucinations, performing miraculous decantations on wines he’s never tasted, and astounding Miyabi.
Just that alone fills me with deep emotion, and now I get to watch it as a viewer myself. I want to express my gratitude once again to the anime staff.
Fantastic!!
Itoso Kenji (Director)
Kami no Shizuku is finally flowing out into the world as an anime.
Set in the early 2000s, it weaves a story of life dwelling within wine, as aromas, memories, and destiny all marry together.
We’ve captured the atmosphere of that era and expressed the overwhelming world of wine through the unique music, acting, and direction only animation can provide. I hope everyone will enjoy the numerous miracles led by a single drop.
Uncork the moment, and feel the drop that changes everything.
