Created by Osamu Akimoto, this police comedy manga ran in Weekly Shounen Jump for a staggering 40 years, from September 1976 to September 2016. It wrapped up with an unbelievable 201 volumes, cementing its place in manga history.
Its first anime adaptation, also by Gallop, aired from 1996 to 2004 for a total of 373 episodes, followed by two movies and several TV specials. The last special, The Final – Ryoutsu Kankichi Saigo no Hi, aired in 2016, seemingly closing the book on the anime. But as we now see, you can’t keep a good cop down!
