Exciting news for manga fans! The stage event for Mr. Clice at Jump Festa 2026 just dropped a major bombshell: this beloved action comedy series is officially getting an anime adaptation! The announcement came with a cool new visual (check it out above), giving us a first glimpse at what’s to come.
Who’s Behind the Manga?
The original Mr. Clice manga is the brainchild of veteran mangaka Akimoto Osamu. This series has had quite the journey—it first kicked off in Monthly Shonen Jump way back in December 1985. After that magazine wrapped up, the story found a new home in Jump SQ. in 2017, and it’s been serialized in Jump SQ.Rise since 2018. Talk about staying power!
Shueisha published the 14th volume on July 4, and get this: the entire series has blown past 1.6 million copies in circulation. That’s a lot of spies and shenanigans out in the wild!
So, What’s the Story Anyway?
Here’s the wild premise: Mr. Clice centers on Jin Clice, a super-smooth spy from Japan’s elite Jin Clice espionage program. After a nasty run-in with the KGB leaves his body mortally wounded, his agency isn’t ready to let their investment go to waste. In a desperate move, they transfer his personality into a new body to save him. The catch? The only available body is that of a recently deceased, lovely young tennis player. Suddenly, this dashing ladies’ man finds himself living life as the Bond girl instead of Bond! It’s a hilarious and action-packed twist on the spy genre.
