2025 has been a great year for anime adaptations of games, with several titles like Disney Twisted Wonderland The Animation and Monster Strike Dead Birth Reloaded making their way to screens.

Over the years, we’ve seen games from all sorts of genres—RPGs, action, adventure, simulation—get the anime treatment. It’s no wonder many fans are eagerly waiting for the day their favorite game gets animated!

Following up on our survey from the first half of 2025, Anime! Anime! conducted another reader poll titled “Which Games Do You Want to See Animated? (Second Half of 2025)”. During the survey period from November 22nd to December 1st, we received responses from 660 people. The gender ratio was almost equal, and the age groups were centered on younger demographics, with about 35% under 19 and 30% in their 20s.

In this article, we’ll be announcing the results for consumer games (home console games).

■ Nintendo’s Popular Series Take the Top Spots!

1st Place

1st place goes to ‘Atsumare Doubutsu no Mori’ (Animal Crossing: New Horizons), with a support rate of about 4%.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (C) 2020 Nintendo

‘Atsumare Doubutsu no Mori’ is the latest title in the “Animal Crossing” series, where you enjoy laid-back days in a village or island inhabited by animals. Readers shared comments like, “If that peaceful daily life were animated, I could watch it and feel all relaxed,” “I’m curious about how the island residents would talk,” and “Since there are various manga already, I’d love an anime that mixes in some gags like the game.”

While a movie adaptation, ‘Gekijouban Doubutsu no Mori’, was released in 2006, it seems many readers are eager to see the latest game animated. This title is also set for a release on January 15, 2026, as ‘Atsumare Doubutsu no Mori Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’.

2nd Place

2nd place is ‘Faiā Emuburemu’ (Fire Emblem), trailing the top by just a few votes.

‘Faiā Emuburemu’ is a simulation RPG series that started in 1990. There were particularly strong calls for an anime of the 2019 release ‘Fuukasetsugetsu’ (Three Houses), with one reader saying, “The main story had full voice acting and a plot as weighty as a movie. Since there are multiple routes, it might be tricky, but I’d be thrilled if the whole thing were animated.” Another mentioned the 1996 title ‘Seisen no Keifu’ (Genealogy of the Holy War): “The story spanning two generations was amazing. The part where the children’s generation avenges their parents’ enemies is so intense!” showing enduring popularity for older entries too.

3rd Place

3rd place is a tie between ‘Supuratūn’ (Splatoon) and ‘Zeruda no Densetsu’ (The Legend of Zelda), each with about 3% support.

‘Supuratūn’ is an action-shooter where squids that can transform into human forms battle by splatting ink. “The characters are cool and stylish, and with so many weapon types, it would definitely be fun,” expressing hope for seeing those intense battles animated.

‘Zeruda no Densetsu’ is an action-adventure series that began in 1986. Comments included, “I want to see an anime of ‘Sukaiuōdo Sōdo’ (Skyward Sword), the story of how it all began,” and “Playing ‘Buresu obu za Wairudo’ (Breath of the Wild) got me back into home console games,” showing desires for various titles to be adapted. Note that a live-action film adaptation is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.

■ Other Comments We Loved!

For ‘Mahō Shōjo no Majo Saiban’ (Magical Girl Witch Trial): “The home console version is set for release next year, but I want to see that debate mystery in motion as an anime! All the characters are cute too, so it would be absolutely riveting.”

For ‘Akuariumu wa Odoranai’ (The Aquarium Doesn’t Dance): “A masterpiece horror game made single-handedly over eight years by an author who dislikes horror. This year saw the release of a full-voice package version, and with drama CDs, manga, and collaborations with aquariums, it’s been making waves in various areas.”

For ‘Kurono Torigā’ (Chrono Trigger): “The epic story spanning time and space is a given, but everything from the characters to the music is top-notch! If it moved exactly with Akira Toriyama-sensei’s character designs, I’d be beyond excited.”

Undertale (C)Toby Fox 2015-2018. All rights reserved.

For ‘Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A’: “It’s a new title that just came out in October this year, but it has so many charming characters and was really fun. I’m especially a fan of Karasuba, so I’d love to see him animated speaking in Kansai dialect.” Even the latest series entry received votes.

The home console game category saw a diverse range of titles ranked. Although not part of the ranking, votes also came in for games already animated, like ‘Inazuma Eleven Hero-tachi no Victory Road’, which had a movie release in 2024 ahead of its game, and ‘Hoshi no Kābī’ (Kirby), which had a TV anime broadcast from 2001 to 2003.
