From the TV anime Hataraku Saibou, a 100cm tall “Platelet” figure has been officially announced for release. Pre-orders are currently being accepted on Prime 1 Studio Co., Ltd.’s official website.
Hataraku Saibou (known in English as Cells at Work!) is a groundbreaking manga series by Shimizu Akane, originally serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius. Its fresh and utterly unique premise of anthropomorphizing cells within the human body quickly garnered significant attention. The series captured not only domestic but also global interest, even being selected for French newspaper Le Monde‘s “Recommended Reading List for This Summer” in 2017. The fervor intensified with its anime adaptation in 2018, propelling the series to a mega-hit status with over 10 million copies in print.
Adding to its widespread acclaim, 2024 saw the release of a live-action film adaptation. This movie, based on both Shimizu Akane’s original Hataraku Saibou and the spin-off Hataraku Saibou BLACK (supervised by Shimizu Akane and created by Harada Shigemitsu and Hatsukaya Issei), uniquely portrayed “the human world” alongside the cellular one for the first time in the series’ history. It masterfully depicted “the world’s smallest story” unfolding within the human body on Japan’s largest cinematic scale.
