Madoka Magica Characters Head to Akihabara in Stylish New Outfits!
Get ready, Akihabara! The magical girls from the legendary anime Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika are making a limited-time appearance in Tokyo’s otaku hub. Kaname Madoka, Akemi Homura, and the rest of the crew will be gracing the Bandai Namco Cross Store in Atre Akihabara in brand-new original costumes. The “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika in CHARA POP STORE” event is set to open its doors on January 16, 2026!
A Legendary Magical Girl Saga
For those who might be new to the phenomenon, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika (often shortened to Madoka Magica) is an original anime that first aired in January 2011. This 12-episode series, directed by Shinbou Akiyuki with a script by Urobuchi Gen (Nitroplus), took the classic magical girl genre and turned it on its head with its unpredictable, thrilling plot and deep world-building. The story begins with the ordinary life of protagonist Kaname Madoka and a fateful encounter that changes everything.
The franchise expanded with two recap films in 2012—[Zenpen] Hajimari no Monogatari ([Part 1] The Beginning Story) and [Kouhen] Eien no Monogatari ([Part 2] The Eternal Story)—followed by a groundbreaking new sequel film in 2013, [Shinpen] Hangyaku no Monogatari ([The Rebellion Story]). Fans are now eagerly awaiting the next chapter, Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika 〈Walpurgis no Kaiten〉, scheduled for release in February 2026.

The pop-up store will feature all six main magical girls—Kaname Madoka, Akemi Homura, Tomoe Mami, Miki Sayaka, Sakura Kyouko, and Mumeya Nagisa (also known as Bebe)—dressed in sharp, brown-toned original outfits designed specifically for this event.

Running from January 16 to March 8, 2026, the store will offer a line of goods featuring these gorgeous new illustrations. The lineup includes items that let you enjoy full-body portraits of the girls, like the “Color Acrylic Stands,” and more personal touches like “Acrylic Plate Keychains” adorned with character quotes such as Homura’s iconic “It’s a secret from everyone in class.“

Test Your Luck with the “Homura vs. Mami Ballistic Lottery”!
Adding a bit of interactive fun, the store will host a mini-game inspired by a scene from [Shinpen] Hangyaku no Monogatari: the “Homura vs. Mami Ballistic Lottery.” Your prize will depend on the ballistic path you choose!
The prizes are as follows:
- A Prize: “Foil Acrylic Board” (7 types in total)
- B Prize: “Scene Photo Can Badge” (12 types in total)
- C Prize: “Witch Instant Photo Style Sheet” (10 types, distributed randomly)

Collaboration Event at Atre Akihabara
But wait, there’s more! The entire Atre Akihabara building will join the celebration with its own collaboration event, “Atre Akihabara × Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika,” running from January 16 to January 31.
During this period, the building will be decked out with Madoka Magica wall wraps and themed BGM. Shoppers can also receive a random “Illustration Card” (1 out of 13 types) for every 500 yen (including tax) spent at participating stores in Atre Akihabara 1 & 2.

Heads up! The Atre Akihabara collaboration has a much shorter run than the CHARA POP STORE. If you want to experience both events, you’ll need to plan your pilgrimage to Akihabara before January 31st!
