What’s “Dead Account” All About?
Based on the manga by Watanabe Shizuka serialized in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket, “Dead Account” is a modern exorcism battle action series all about burning, smacking, and purging. The story kicks off when the online accounts of the deceased who can’t let go—called Dead Accounts—eventually come back to haunt the real world as digital ghosts, known as “bakeaka” (a pun on “ghost account”).
Our protagonist, Enjou Souri, has been grinding as a flame-bait streamer under the handle “Ajaringo” to pay for his sister Hiri‘s medical treatment. His life takes a wild turn when a certain incident awakens his latent electric powers, leading him to be whisked away to the rumor-shrouded Miden Gakuen (Miden Academy). This isn’t your ordinary school; it’s an institution training a new generation of mediums to exorcise ghosts that have gone digital with the internet age. Talk about a specialized education!
The TV anime adaptation is being directed by Saitou Keiya, with animation production handled by SynergySP.
Episode 1 “Sono Otoko, Enjou-kei” Synopsis
The story dives right into Enjou Souri’s hectic life. He’s been livestreaming as the provocative “Ajaringo” to fund his sister Hiri’s treatment. Finally having saved up enough, Enjou now spends his days simply looking forward to exchanging messages with Hiri, who is staying far away. But this quiet hope is shattered one night when a mysterious man appears and coldly informs him: “Your sister died a month ago.” If that’s true… then who has been sending him messages until just yesterday?
