Meet the “Kan Chara!”: A New Gashapon Series Where Characters Pop Out of Cans!
A brand new gashapon (capsule toy) series from Takara Tomy Arts called “Kan Chara!” (which can be translated as “Can Characters”) is about to launch, featuring adorable characters popping their heads out of realistic-looking cans. The exciting first wave will be “Kan Chara! Sanrio Characters,” slated for a sequential release at capsule toy machines across Japan starting in late January 2026. Candy toys using the “Kan Chara!” art will also hit shelves around the same time.
What is “Kan Chara!” All About?
The core concept of “Kan Chara!” is all about the charming sight of characters peeking out from cans. This debut gashapon series features a lineup of five beloved Sanrio friends: Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Pochacco, Cinnamoroll, and Nyan Nyan Nyu Nye Nyoon.
The series’ biggest appeal is its unique fusion of realistic can details with overwhelming character cuteness. The cans are meticulously crafted based on real-life observation, replicating details like the circular indentations on the top and the way the lid bends back when opened. The characters poking their faces and bodies out from this realistic base creates an irresistibly adorable visual that makes you want to collect them all.
Charming Details and Expressive Poses
As a delightful touch, the cans are filled with tiny hearts, creating a playful effect like cuteness is spilling out along with the character. The can labels themselves are also specially designed, each adorned with a food item related to its character, allowing fans to enjoy the carefully crafted worldview down to the smallest detail.
The distinct poses for each character are another key highlight, perfectly capturing their personalities. For instance, in this first series, the energetic Pochacco is posed leaning out of the can with his leg kicked out. For Cinnamoroll, his signature flopped-over ear (“mimimusubi”) is represented three-dimensionally. These thoughtful sculpting choices really let each character’s unique charm shine.
Beyond Gashapon: Expanding to Candy Toys
The “Kan Chara!” concept isn’t stopping at gashapon! Plans are already in motion for wider merchandise expansion. As part of this, the latest entry in the “Characterful Stickers” candy toy series, “Sanrio Characters Characterful Stickers Vol.6”, will feature this new can-themed design format.
This is a treat-and-toy set containing chewing gum and two stickers. Out of the 20 total sticker designs, some will feature the new “Kan Chara!” artwork. It’s a collectible expansion that fully embraces the appeal of the “Can x Character” theme, so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
